Yeah, that's them. Right next to the old Flamingo's bar.

Makes me wish I had an orange rocket launcher.

What a bunch of opportunistic posers.

When I did come down for the SC game I saw that and thought, 'What the hell is that". (That being if your talking about the one on the strip) Is that the BOA store or something?

Yup. That's the BOA 'recruiting office' and store.

I get so sick of these pogues harassing me at a game...If the clown that wears the helmet and the checkered overalls comes up to me and my wife this weekend trying to get us to sign some papers and wear a boa shirt I honestly think I may pee in his helmet and make him wear it...

UT will crush them in court. The real sad thing is UT didn't come up with this idea (or one very much like it) on their own. I would be much more willing to join some UT-affiliated fan organization and purchase their gear than I am willing to do it for some guy just out to make a buck.

If I'm paying a buck, I want the largest portion of it to benefit the University.

The big question is why UT was willing to sign an agreement to license some of their trademarks in the first place. I have to think that surely Jamison originally pitched his group as more of a fan club/charitable organization anything else, and then only once he had his agreements did it became obvious that his main goal was to sell stuff. Hamilton must have been hoodwinked to some extent as to what Jamison was planning to do.

Sounds like they've overextended themselves with the corporate sponsorships, though. If you're cutting into t-shirt sales a little bit, you're a nuisance; if you're affecting UT's relationship with First Tennessee Bank, you're a real problem.

Well put.

When I came into town for the UT-USC game, I stayed with my folks in Knoxville. My younger brother came in from DC and was tailgating at 20th and White, so I had my dad drive me down to meet up with little bro. (Nothing like being 31 and having your dad drop you off - just like old times!:) ).

Anyhow, Dad's a retired UT prof so he knows all these crazy ways to get into the area and bypass traffic. I think we went down Middlebrook Pike a good portion of the way and passed right under this giant billboard with Big Orange Army and **** Neyland. I laughed thinking about this message board. My Dad just muttered something like "psshaw" or some other utterance of disgust.

My opinion - it's lame. As someone mentioned earlier, it's very cartoonish. It does belong in the NFL with their crass commercialism.

I'll admit that I got duped into thinking this was an official university organization...

I'm sure that their "big numbers" are most likely from people like me who thought they were buying into something to support the University/VSAF...

If that isn't brand/market confusion, I don't know what is...

The only justice in this matter would be if the BOA was forced to disband and its members were set on fire.

UT needs to step up and use the Arkansas model

When a fan here in Arkansas made up a T-shirt about Houston Nutt, they filed a Trademark enfringement case, and went to the guy and told him to hand over the T-shirts, or they would continue with the suit, and revoke his and his families season tickets.

I don't see how the BOA can continue to use Tennessee Trademarked items. That should be any easy case for UT to win.

Let the courts settle it, that's how we lost the "T" to Texas in the early '90's.

:focus: For the record, I like my dog tag but don't support the **** Neyland thing. I figured their relationships with sponsors was limited to businesses providing discounts in exchange for the BOA getting them business by sending members there. It sounds like the corporate sponsorship thing has gone too far though.

For the record, I've never participated in any activities and thought I was giving money to a University-run organization...now that I know it isn't...well...I'm hoping my money makes it back to me somehow...or I can just chalk it up to buying from a snakeoil salesman...

You won't catch me dead at a game in a frickin BOA helmet...

What exactly is the BOA? Just a place that sells UT merchandise and doesn't compensate the University enough? Seems weird for sure.....

Essentially an organization marketing itself as an official organization (they used to on their website, but they don't anymore)...that apparently doesn't compensate the University at all...

And trademarked "**** Neyland" per this: http://www.bigorangearmy.com/images/FortNeylandTrademarkLarge.gif

If you look closely at the Hummer in the picture, it says "Officially Licensed Apparel and Merchandise"...which probably means BOA stuff, but one would think UT stuff.
