Unhappy SEC

So it's a fact that losing to Vandy and USC was because of injuries? Can you provide a link, I must have missed where that was a proven fact? With your obvious intelligence, can you tell me how our lack of talent due to injuries allowed us to have a large lead on Vandy at halftime?
Let's be honest, besided Cummingham and maybe a couple of other players everyone on Vandy roster is a 2nd or 3rd stringer on Tennessees team this year. We didnt lose to Vandy or USC because of injuries. If thats what you tell yourself to make you feel better, thats cool. But its not a proven fact like you say.

Let's go back to facts and not emotion. The "large lead" we had on Vandy at the half was 7 points which we scored with about a minute to go in the 2nd. At the end of the 3rd quarter we had a 3 point lead. Up by 3 Dobbs fumbles midfield. Vandy scores on a short field. We drive down and Medley hits the upright to no one's surprise.

Now for the link showing injuries to many of our defensive 1st and 2nd stringers resulting in Vandy's offense having more talent, well I guess you'll always think of Vandy as a high school team no matter what the reality is so nothing I can say will convince you otherwise.

9-4 in the context of the thread.

Well if we had been vandy and usc, we would be 10-2 (3) and the context on the thread wouldnt fit. We would be a top 10 team, in a new years six bowl, SECE champs and building a CBJ statute. Sadly, we are not so the context of the thread fits us, rightfully so.

We led Vandy 21-7 at a point in the game. It had nothing to do with injuries. We got our but whipped by a 5-7 team whose coach had them more prepared to win a game than our coach did. I dont of Vandy as a high school team. I think of them of a 5-7 SEC team that beat Tennessee to get bowl eligible. Our injury status was not much different than when we played a and m, Florida, UGA, Mizzu or Kentucky. No excuse to lose that game and miss a sugar bowl bid. Compare recruiting rankings of UT and vandy/usc over the last four year. Those facts will not help your theory too much. But if saying we lost to vandy due to injury enables you to get your hopes up for next season, have at it big fellla.

True Orange was right about Georgia vs Vandy. However, Georgia FIRED their coach after such embarrassing losses with in a four year span.

Not entirely right.

In the last 4 years, Vanderbilt beat UGA once with Richt at the helm (2013, a 31-27 win over a very injured UGA team following major player losses in both its win against UT and its loss against then-#25 Missouri).

UGA's next loss to Vanderbilt didn't come until this year (2016), now led by coach Kirby Smart after they had fired Richt at the end of the year before.

Thought this interesting article. Maybe it's because I don't go on other SEC sites (except UGA and FL when they lose to rub it in), or maybe because we're larger fan base and more spirited about our team...but certainly seems like more unhappiness about Vols vs other 7 listed. Hope Nebraska win and good end to recruiting cycle can turn some of the rhetoric about direction of the team?

Everyone is 8-4 & Everyone is Unhappy - Rocky Top Talk

fire them all -- all of them -- none of them can coach in the SEC

Butch wanted out but no one would bite.
Asking for a raise with new bosses coming in is like you said essentially begging to be fired at the first sign of trouble next season

I would love to see Butch demand a raise/extension from the next AD (assuming it's Blackburn or someone competent).

Has anyone noticed how quick we are as posters on here like to split hairs time and time again.

There are so many factors involved in how we lost our games and how we won the games we did.

In the losses we had plenty out due to injury to put some of the blame on that, but at the same time injuries of our opponents had helped us(Florida and Del rio).

Turnovers helped us win games early in the year but contributed to our losses too. -3 Vs A&M and SC sprinkle some in on Vandy.

Same with penalties, we did a poor job all year, but early on we got some help(VT a penalty on a play that netted a 1st down ended up putting them "behind the chains", and then they turn it over the next play jump starting the beat down they took the rest of the game), but more often than not penalties cost us more than they helped.

Our conservative game plans didn't help, while the way the Florida got conservative (stopped throwing deep after the 1st 3 times got them TDs) helped us stay in the game. I'm glad we broke the streak against those clowns. They will never get that close again.

Missed FGs hurt us, but the way a App st couldn't get them to go, helped us.

Coaching decisions, going for it on 4th against Vandy and not kicking a FG( we missed one on the previous drive), attempting a FG against SC rather than converting another Hail Mary like we did against Ga. Ole Butter Teeth did that too.

I said that Team 120 would be special, well they were for half the year in a good way, but then they were special in a bad way towards the end(beat Fl and Ga and then lose to SC and Vandy), if that's not a special kind of bad I don't know what is.

Many pegged us to lose 4 way back in the summer, nobody predicted the 4 correctly. I like posting about all the wins we will get, at this point we are gonna come up at least 6 short, it could be as many as 7, depends on Friday.

We need to send the seniors out with a win, that's why the bowl game is so important. Every body else has a choice stick with the Vols and the rebuild, or cut bait and transfer out. For they guys that declare for the NFL, more power to ya, thanks for what you did for us, good luck and Go Vols. For all that stay, 2017 starts a day early, get to work.

As for the class we are about to sign, if I told you back in August we would lose to SC and Vandy, not win the east and go 8-4, but still have a top 10 class with the top recruit in the country and several other 4*s y'all would have horse laughed until y'all went horse.

Get it together Butch.

I posted on a thriving SEC board for years, we all learned to live together and have tolerance for each other. This year, that board died. There was so much discontent that the Bama fans even took pity on the guys that were still posting and stopped bragging about their 45 titles. Yeah, its a conference wide thing, I'm not happy and thats for damn sure.

The Day the Sunshine Pumpers died...Vandy

Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his bumpy ride
Something touched me deep inside
The day the Sunshine Pumper died

These coaches aren't being given 8 figure deals to be good enough to get to a bowl or "1-0" every week they get a TN Tech.

Jones, Malzahn, McElwain, Smart, and Sumlin are all at schools that have been historical powers. The pressure should rightly be on all of them to improve the results from this season in short order.

If you don't win your division should be automatic firing . That way the winner of their division also gets to face a new coach every year in additition to the trophy.

The league has parity now. Gone are the days of the guaranteed wins over conference bottom dwellers. If your name isn't Alabama, you can be beat by any team in the league. And even Bama has to watch their back, they can get ambushed. This is the new normal.

My opinion for the SEC East is the parity is in the coaching staffs. All of them somewhere in the C / B- range. Can any of them upgrade a la Dabo Swinney? I doubt it.

My biggest disappointment this year lies in CBJ's lack of fire and conservative coaching but I am just as disappointed in Shoop. We score enough to beat Vandy but our defense was atrocious. I have never seen in all my years a coach do what he did against the run. Then add our pass defense failures and the defensive side stunk it up. I guess in general it all goes back to Jones and I have run out of excuses.

Alabama fans took pity, not because our board sucks but because our team is not competative to them. It is literally the same thing as us talking trash to Tennessee tech.

CBJ lacks fire?? Where have you been??? Most of the posts which criticize CBJ are based on similar unfounded misinformation.

I'm curious to see how Georgia feels when Smart has another terrible to mediocre season with all that talent.

Spent Xmas in Tennessee visiting relatives who used to talk UT football....not so now.

WAKE UP......WE ARE HEMORRAGING FANS!!!!!

The unhappy SEC trend is carrying over to the bowls.. I believe the SEC is currently 1-4 in bowls with the lone win being a 5-7 Miss St team beating Miami (OH) by 1. Hopefully the Vols can make it at least 2 wins tomorrow :)
