Ras and Pacer, are either one of you going to respond? With your current sympathies, I know at least one of you has to speak Russian.

anyone think we will see an invasion of Mariupol? I'm against Russian Aggression but I wouldn't mind to see the azov battalion wiped out, I think there dangerous.

First post at this forum?

I think there will be increased combat at or near Mariupol sooner or later.

Of all the things Russians need to be worried about right now, it's not "boosting patriotism."

It's the fact that they're so damn over-the-top patriotic that accounts for the reason why half the population still lives in hovels and no one there cares.

But, as long as you can always blame it on the US, no sweat, I guess.

This crisis in the Ukraine has been the best thing to ever happen to the Putin administration. It has completely consolidated his autocracy, and Russians just don't seem to care.

But, as I've always said, the Russian idea of freedom is having a Russian lash the whip over his or her back. Just as long as it's not a foreigner. Admirable and disgusting at the same time, I suppose.

interesting first comment and thread. yes fighting will start up probably in a month or so. and it probably wouldn't be a bad thing to see them (Azov) wiped out. but i don't think that helps the situation over there. If Mariupol is lost (and Azov seems to be the biggest defender there) the government is done for and there will be a lot more stability issues over there. Which would likely lead to more aggression by the Russians.

if an attack happens at Mariupol any contention about freedom loving DNR & LPR goes out the window, as that is clear aggression in order for expansion (even though this is already the case). The Mariupolians (?) have been one of the biggest backers of Kiev and the fight and do not want: 1. independence 2. Russian control 3. unstable "semi-autonomous" neighbors.

creative use/definition of the word fascist is a key part of this.

something doesn't add up there, and i am not sure what it is. i see it as one of the following:

1. poroshenko is working for the Russians
2. Poroshenko wants to get rid of that region, admitting defeat (seems very plausible)
3. translation was correct (very unlikely)
4. translation was wrong and the second comment of "getting out" was correct
4a. however that doesn't jive with Putin's alledged response
5. someone made up a load of horsecrap on level of Poland and Russia dividing up ukraine (i am going with this)

Been a long time follower of volnation. Tennessee football is one of my favorite topics along with geopoltics. This thread is one of my favorties though. I really think this Ukraine conflict is the start of a world war

I'd be more concerned about the inevitable nuclear arms race in the Middle East (aka, "Crazyville") or the East Asian nightmare than this one.

They really should be kicked out of the UN for that nonsense.

The fact that a P5 country thinks it can use nuclear threats in today's age is really objectionable.

But, they know they can get away with it. And, quite frankly, it's probably best no one does anything about it.

They're not going to do anything. It's just that old Russian blustering that they have a big wiener when they really don't.

It's all one in the same to me. Putin reminds me a lot of hitler in the sense that he wants to restore the Russia of his dreams I think he will just keep seeing how much he can get away with. we all know russia and Iran are in bed together. Funny how we see the Iranians using a play right out of the russian play book in backing a "rebel" group in countries they want more influence in.

NOT THE BENEVOLENT PUTIN!

He is all innocent and stuff. It's the dastardly EU, US and NATO provoking him.

I've been following this thread long enough to know you don't buy the RT crap that the Kremlin trolls provide us with. However I do agree there are nazis in east Ukraine. I think azov is as bad as they come.

Darn! Caught me.

Honestly, I'm on the fence with the Azov Battalion. It depends on their end goals on whether or not they should be supported. If it's just ensuring the eastern borders are secure and keeping the Russians from another land grab, I have no problems with that.

if it's an eventual establishment of a new National Socialist Party, I can't support them.

this all day long. nb4 america blah blah blah.

Without Ras and Pacer I would never have known that NATO was the modern day Wehrmacht.

you have to remember that Bush (take your pick) once kicked a puppy. so therefore Russia can get away with invasion of a sovereign country (twice).

a few other things i have learned from our comrades:

cookies and phone calls = coup
tanks and soldiers = vacation.
slightly Pro-American/Anti Russian = fascist
trade with the EU = corruption
training missions = warmongering (only for the fascists of course)
agrees with America in the slightest = puppet
disagrees with America/sanction = freedom fighter (those last two can refer to the same person in a matter of minutes or days)
gives part of country to Russia = freedom lover
proof against Russia = high res satellite image of Putin driving a tank in Kiev
proof of american involvement = comments on RT

i could go on, but i think you get the picture

Azov fighters are Ukraine's greatest weapon and may be its greatest threat | World news | The Guardian
Pretty good article about azov. I've also seen pictures of there fighters waving nazi flags. Back in german occupation days the Ukrainians thought the nazis were liberators they even helped them go out and round up Jews.
