Philanthropist Victor Pinchuk shows up as a donor at the $10 million level in 2014 so it looks like the whole total is due to one person. This guy does a lot of charity work with Elton John, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, etc.

It would be cool to see if Hillary sent this guy emails when she was Sec of State. Of course she was using a private server the whole time and emails to Pinchuk wouldn't be work related I'm sure.

It was more a joke about coups since Ras and Pacer seem to think I am a CIA agent fomenting coups.

As for oligarchs, they have a lot of control. The same in Russia and even here in the US. After the fall of the USSR, you had well connected Communists who maneuvered to gain industry. They've made a pretty penny off these businesses. In Russia, Putin basically ran off the oligarchs that pose a threat to him - which is pretty much every one of them. The ones he runs off he replaces with a more favorable one AND takes a share for himself AND gives a decent share to the government. The only reason the government runs is that industry gets a cut of the profits. Imagine if the US got a third of Apple and other top companies.

As far as Ukraine, these oligarchs are more diverse. Some went with Yanukovich and some were more pro-Western. Akhmetov held allegiance to Yanukovich but switched. Like I said before, I think he has played both sides. The oligarchs have decent grips but nowhere near the extent they do in Russia. All of them are losing money. If they had the control and power that many allege they would have bought victory in this war by now. Not to say they are not causing problems but it is not to the level many claim. The current government is attempting to make needed reforms. This is probably the most reforms Ukraine has seen since the fall of the USSR. They have a long way to go and it will take years to clean up corruption. But like I said, they are doing more than has ever been done before. Yanukovich really screwed the country over before running away. You are trying to clean up corruption, repair the economy, and fight a war all at the same time. You have little money and little encouragement from the outside. I don't envy the Rada or Poroshenko in this task.

Interesting. What are the oligarchs' most effective ways to wield political influence there? I read that in a few cases they literally own the media (TV stations) but that can't be the case for all of them.

Uh oh, another smoking gun. Leaflets are dangerous. #Coup

Bribes, jobs, blackmail. The usual suspects. Some media is owned by oligarchs. But they all compete against each other. Just like here with Murdoch owned media competing against Cox, etc.

Where did this leaflet come from?

Is Ras around or is he heading to St Petersburg, Russia this weekend? I hear the gathering has been called and wondering if he's going to meet with his kindred spirits at their convention. Pacer as well?

You know you're in for a winning post when you see this in the first sentence:

the world has witnessed an international relations debacle the likes of which no history book has yet recorded

I'll make sure to recognize Russia's contribution such as Molotov-Ribbentrop, the invasion of Poland, the invasion of the Baltics, the tens of thousands 'relocated' or killed in these areas to include the Katyn massacre. I won't forget to recognize Russia's part in helping to supply, train, etc. the Nazis before the war began as well. That should get us up to the war as Russia recognizes it - starting in 1941. Then we'll cover the millions killed and relocated at the hands of the Soviets. The hundreds of thousands of prisoners who were sent to Siberia and never made it home. The governments that were suppressed and replaced with Communists who ended freedoms of religion, speech, assembly, etc.

Not surprising this new fascist reboot would just overlook the FULL Soviet "contribution" to the war.

Just saw where the Ukrainians plan on bringing back their T-72s into service and upgrading them to the Polish PT-91 Twardy variant. Would be the first arm shipments (known that is) to Ukrainian forces.

Russian fascists just can't recognize what their communists forebears did for them.

Putin and his fellow Russians should be ashamed of cutting their communists forefathers' full contributions to the war from the history books!

Shame on Russian fascists!

Dude, you are nothing but an obvious troll! Even the posters on your side see it I'm sure.

It's okay for Israel to hunt down nazis to this very day, but the contributions the soviets made against them is irrelevant. It's discredited simply because of our agenda against Russia. It's pathetic!

The author's concept of history is worse than yours and Ras.

They fought with bare hands because they weren't enough rifles to go around and they were just as afraid of the Commissar's bullets as they were the Nazis.

You do what you have to in war....this is not history, yet fact!

I guess bowing out of the way and handing over Moscow, Leningrad, Stalingrad, and the Caucuses to Germany would of been ok with you?!
