What possible use could the seperatists have for an airport? obviously they wont be running civilian flights out of it for money. and they don't have an airforce of their own. I wont say its so the russians can fly in supplies.....

Even if the separatists can't use the airfield, it's still key terrain to hold even if it's only to prevent the Ukrainians from using it.

yeah but it does apply both ways, the separatists hold the rest of the city and this is on the outskirts, and plane flying in is a ripe target, Ukrainian, Russian or rebel as long as there is overall conflict neither side will be able to use it. the old military thinking of: The enemy holds it so we want it. But clearly the separatists are the aggressors in what should be a cease fire. so yeah. bad russians and all that jazz.

The DPR tends to roll that way.

I think we're 3 or 4 months away now from watching them "peacefully" being annexed by the motherland too.

On a related note, I love how Putin has vocally encouraged various separatists movements throughout Europe, but has penalized separatism as a crime and terrorist act at home. haha! You can't make this crap up.

A lot of people have noticed that in the past few days large numbers of Russian convoys have been mobilizing, they think it's a precursor to a full annexation of Eastern Ukraine.

I wasn't even referring to an invasion invasion. There will be no need for that. I think it appears that it will happen just in the natural drift of things.

I'll give it to them. The Russians have seriously hurt their economy with these Ukraine stunts, but they have handled the acquisition of new territories like champs. It really is something to behold. 20committee is certainly right about them being the masters of special warfare and espionage. Hell, we've got Americans still thinking it's the damn CIA over there doing all this.

US Calls on All Nations to Reject Regional Elections in DPR, LPR: State Department | World | RIA Novosti

Washington calls on all countries not to recognize the November 2 regional elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki told journalists on Friday.

“The United States will not recognize the results [of the elections],” Psaki said. “We call on all nations to similarly reject the illegal effort and instead support the legal December 7 local elections.”

Residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine will vote for regional leaders and legislative bodies on Sunday. The United States, the European Union and the United Nations have many times spoken out against these elections.

You didn't answer the question, potty mouth. Flying over open water in the Baltic, Atlantic or the Black Sea is not invading NATO airspace.

apparently a couple of the flights got well within the 200 mile national airspace of sweden. one report said they also got within 40 miles of *Canada's* coastline-again within the 200 mile national airspace. (i have no idea where the 200 came from, thought it was the same 100 as national waters, but with planes being faster i could see it being 200)
