For me I am fine with the foreign policy of providing support to a nation as long as they ask for it and we don't volunteer it to begin with. I want to be sure we are welcomed by at least the government before we get involved.

This "aid" convoy, civilian fatalities reportedly doubling (!) in the last week. Does anyone know what they're doing there?

Moscow and Kiev seemed headed toward at least a standoff over the convoy, with Russia saying it still expected the hundreds of trucks to be allowed across the border and Ukraine vowing that they would be barred. Later in the day, though, Kiev relented somewhat, with the office of President Petro O. Poroshenko saying it would allow the trucks to cross after they had been inspected by Ukrainian officials and monitors from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

In a shocking turn of events, the Russian "aid" trucks turned out to in fact have "aid" on them. Who woulda thunk it? I thought our media had told us this was just a Russian Trojan Horse?

Maybe I missed something, but last I heard they still hadn't been inspected by any source other than the Russian govt. and Red Cross didn't even know for sure what kind of "aid" was being provided. Also, apparently the convoy has turned its direction. It was going to go through Kharkiv to be inspected (I believe; could be wrong), then suddenly changed direction before entering Ukraine. Still in Russia last I heard.

I haven't kept up with it as much today though as I typically do, so I could be tardy to the party.

The convoy, which departed from an army base near Moscow on Tuesday, appeared to vanish yesterday, adding to confusion surrounding the route and purpose of the cargo.

Last seen in the city of Voronezh, 300 miles south of Moscow, on Tuesday, the convoy never reached the border near the Russian city of Belgorod that the Russian foreign ministry said it would use.

Rumours that the convoy had headed south from Voronezh to cross the border directly into rebel-held territory – a move that would be viewed by Kiev as tantamount to a declaration of war – could not be substantiated.

Russian state television initially reported the convoy to be en route to Belgorod. But journalists waiting at the Pletenivka checkpoint, on the Ukrainian side of the border where Russia had said the convoy would cross, saw no sign of the vehicles.

Russians spy on everything. You go take a dump, you can rest assured some Russian is watching you from somewhere. How they keep such secrecy for the most part is beyond me. Their American counterparts can't even shower privately without it eventually being revealed what songs they were thinking about singing while showering, much less the ones they actually did sing.

What a weird story. Not surprised that Russia is doing whatever it is they are doing, but it seemingly got the endorsement of the IRC, U.S., and Germans before any of them knew what was in the works.

Say what?

The entire world is on fiat currencies, so it is going to affect all of us. Only some countries will suffer more than others. If you could show me where I said or insinuated that Russia or China will emerge from this unscathed, please point it out to me and I can better clarify.

So wait, they lose an entire Russian convoy, yet they convince us within an hour of the Malaysian flight coming down that the Russians or East Ukrainian rebels shot it down? Really?

Does this make since to any of you?

The convoy has been spotted again and is now reported to be headed towards the Russian Rostov region, which, if you recall, is where all the "rebels" are being trained and brought in from across the Russian border.

Interesting.

Maybe it is just humanitarian aid. Heck, I don't know. I will say, however, that the Russians have been less than forthcoming thus far with cooperating with Ukrainians or even the Red Cross on the contents of the trucks. Maybe they will eventually though.

And you may or may not know this, but Russia did a "humanitarian aid" mission to Abhkazia back in 1993 that actually delivered arms to the pro-Russian side in reality.

If they are attempting to cross illegally, under war-time conditions like those in the east are like, than yes I will. If I'm a Ukrainian Army officer or Border Guards officer I'm going to stop them and turn them back. If they refuse, I'm ordering my personnel to open fire. Also let's get real, those "humanitarian aid workers" are Russian soldiers.
