Ukraine Protests

After looking at his Wikipedia page, I feel no shame in asking you what exactly his platform is. I'm receptive.

However,...

There's only so many hours in a day. Thanks!

well when he ran before he got in trouble for suggesting that Republicans need to worry less about social issues.

he's generally a fiscal conservative but social moderate. He's not a hawk and he's a quiet, thoughtful person rather than one who demonizes his opponents.

Finally, he has a proven record as an executive at the getting things running right and efficiently.

The more I read Vox the more I find it irritating. The guise of "we are using data" to bolster our arguments would be fine if they didn't cherry pick data that they can use to support the argument and ignore other data.

Here, look at this chart! See? We are right.

pseudo-intellectualism at it's finest (worst)

for a quick example check out the linked article above - the sberbank stock price is used as an indicator of how Obama is winning and Putin losing. Notice it's scale is from Jan 14 to current? The trend looks bad. Now go look up the 1 year and 5 year trend lines on the stock. Plenty of volatility and the trend line doesn't look nearly as bad. (I won't even get into the this stock is seen as a proxy for the economy).

Here's the stock of Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, the performance of which Adomanis says "been popularly used as rough barometer for the overall health of the Russian equity market":

We also know (and are repeatedly told) that the equity markets are not the same as the economy. Our own stock market has proven this point clearly over the last several years. Yet the charts used are the equity markets (2 for some reason given that the bank is proxy for the market why post both) and exchange rate (again not the same as the economy).

We tried sanctioning Russia. You know what they did? They entered a trade treaty with China and several others-- basing it on the participant country's currency, thus threatening the globalized dollar standard. If the global dollar currency standard goes, America is hosed.

The sanctions may or may not be having an impact. But the deal with China and whoever else is besides the point. Russia isn't going to make or break the dollar.

But the "Red Line" criticism is valid in that America should only threaten what Germany/UK/France are willing to go along with. The US is limited without the regional supporting cast.

Yes, I agree. She is a very biased woman, although I personally often welcome her perspective, whether or not I agree.

Regarding this particular case, I think she has a point. Which is why I felt no shame linking her blog.

Actually, she didn't write the post you linked to.

I would watch her show more if she monologued less and had more interviews. Too much droning on and on.

And those MSNBC shows get stuck on the same stories night after night after night.

And as far as China and the dollar are concerned, I agree it is an issue we should stay abreast of. However, regarding this particular crisis, Russia was going to sign a gas deal with China regardless. The crisis ended up pushing Russia into a bargain agreement that didn't completely benefit it.

How do you or anyone outside of the negotiations know that Russia capitulated when they haven't even released the price they are charging China for gas? All that anyone has seen regarding price is a speculated price. You know why? Because in 5 years or less (not to mention 30 years from now), the Yen, Rubble or US Dollar in present form may not exist as we know it, instead, you may have gold backed currencies or simply gold settlement of trade. So for anyone to know the terms beyond that is impossible. I would bet that at some point, China and/or Russia will have a gold backed currency and once that occurs, then you will see the true value of this gas deal. Until that happens, it is all speculation on what the agreed upon price for gas is.

Like I said in my previous response to Grand, I admit the flaws of the article writer and even the article. I do, however, agree with it's overall suggestion regarding Putin.

As far as your questions are concerned, they are legitimate. I think America is weakening. This is not necessarily Obama's fault. Nor is it necessarily Bush's fault. Rather, I think it is the result of almost twenty years now of "extremism" in our executive.

Which is why I'm going to be voting for the most moderate candidate I can possibly find come next election.

Wish me luck!

I'm going the opposite direction. I'm voting for Hillary because she will be the most extreme candidate on the ballot... it doesn't matter who shows up on the GOP side. She will drive this country over the cliff faster and force us into an economic reset.

I love these State Department press conferences because you actually see a hand full of journalists in this room that actually ask tough questions and that don't swallow the govt story.

Are you a good forecaster? Do you bet on sporting events?

Ukraine's New Defense Minister Vows Crimea Victory

New Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Heletey has vowed to hold "a victory parade" in Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in March.

Addressing parliament on July 3, Colonel General Heletey said, "Believe me, there will be a victory parade -- there will be for sure -- in Ukraine's Sevastopol."

OK then.

Like Art Linkletter used to say, "Nationalists say the god-damndest things."

Sometimes I think the Russians and Ukrainians are in contest to see who can make the most outlandish, or out-of-touch-with-reality statements, with the Russians slightly ahead.

Give it up. Your original post was about this absurd idea that France, Germany and Russia were going to team up to be this incredible alliance that was going to counter the US on the world stage. Now of course you are grasping at straws after being told how absurd that idea was and would never happen since the Germans and Russians do NOT like each other enough to enter into some pact like this. You completely ignore the historical animosity of those two people.

Trade relations are one thing as it's been going on even when the Russians were staring down tank barrels at the Fulda Gap at the West Germans. German citizen acceptance of the Russian annexation of the Crimea is something else, yet again entirely unrelated to an alliance.

What point are you going to try to link in next? The fact that Mercedes cars are popular in Russia, hence they will be in an alliance soon?

Germany has no reason at all to even trust us right now.

A tear falls down Rasputin's cheek. Why that man loves those slaves so much, I have no clue. I love studying Russian history as well, but I'm not a clown. This country may not be perfect, but I'll be damned if I ever let a bunch of slaves overrun it.
