Tymchuk: #Ukraine's anti-terror operation has again come to a halt. It has failed to reach objectives and has been poorly conducted.

Speaking fr forward base near #Slavyansk, MinInt A.Avakov hinted the gloves are about to come off in ATO "time for symbolic gestures ending"

TIFWIW

Moscow called on Ukraine and the international community to step up "joint efforts" to end "racism, xenophobia, ethnic intolerance, (and) the glorification of the Nazis" - a reference to extremists Russia claims are committing "mass" rights violations in Ukraine.

"The alternative is fraught with such destructive consequences for Europe's peace, stability and democratic development that it is absolutely necessary to prevent it," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.

BBC News - Ukraine crisis: Rebels 'retreating' in Sloviansk

Does anyone think that Russia actually believes that anyone not getting their news solely from RT and Rossiya 1 believes this garbage? It's kind of hard for me to take a foreign ministry seriously that keeps constantly calling the other side "Nazis." That's middle school-level discourse.

The readers' editor on

The Guardian moderators believe there is an orchestrated pro-Kremlin campaign in their comments section.

It's pretty bad. I've arrived at this conclusion as well through my own readings of various Western news media forums. Whether or not it's government-sponsored is the pressing question. Like the article stated, there will be an overwhelming presence of pro-Russian comments, many of which are just ridiculous in nature. Also, these comments will all get very high ratings, while the pro-Ukrainian and/or pro-Western comments get negative ratings. The biggest thing that kills me is the silly pseudonyms these posters adopt in order to appear "Western," specifically American or British. Names like John Smith and Robert Smith. A person named "John Smith" in real life probably isn't going to constantly refer to Kiev as "Nazis" in broken English.

Most of those are definitely Russian nationalists, some even paid trolls. Sprinkle in some American social conservatives who are in love with Putin for his cultural and moral stance against homosexuality. Across the board they are all full of nonsense and seem to be pointing the finger in the exact opposite direction of the deserving name of their name calling.

Pat Buchanan has already claimed that Russia under Putin is the "ideal Christian society." From the perspective of one particular version of conservative Christianity, I suppose he's right.

So when is this going to kick off?

Probably sometime after May 9, which is Victory Day. I think sometime after May 11, though, which is when the separatists want their referendum on secession. Donestk and Luhansk provinces will vote for secession in a rigged election, Kiev will try to prevent it, and Russia may roll in proclaiming that it's performing a peacekeeping mission as well as ensuring the enforcement of a "democratic" election.

Agreed. Probably between 11th and 25th which is the Ukrainian election. A moderate will win the Presidency and Putin cannot let that happen since he is painting this "coup" out to be a reincarnation of Hitler.

Nothing on a comparable scale. This is global and hitting media sites of all levels.

The US does that as well. As noted above, a recent example is the fake Cuba Twitter account. All major countries have professional internet propaganda spreaders.

As I said, this is global. If the US does anything it is localized and much smaller in scale. This whole operation is hitting media outlets around the globe - large and small. Probably the only thing close to this is Muslim based, focusing on al Qaeda and/or anti-Israel conspiracies.

Will the real Hitler please stand up.

Ukrainian forces lost another helicopter this morning around Sloviansk. The BBC is also reporting the separatists have armored vehicles, I thought they returned them to Ukrainian forces after they were captured.
