I have no doubt Crimea wanted to join Mother Russia but the turn out and results are 99.9% doctored.

Yeah, probably more like just 93 %.

We need to go over there and kick some butt so that those people don't get their way, since the Crimea is all that and a bag of chips to the US of A.

Let me put this into terms you might understand...

If all Chicago precincts were to come back with 93% of the vote going to Mitt Romney in 2012, you don't imagine there would be a bit of doctoring going on?

A fair election for the people of the Crimea to determine their course of action is necessary. And this is far from "fair."

No. I guess it all depends on what their definition of "squatting" is over there. Regardless, still sounds like a dumb and useless move.

Russia is really handling their impending internal Islamic radicalization strife well, aren't they? The video lecture that Velo linked yesterday from Ilan Berman claims that within the next couple of decades, at least 20 to 25 percent of Russians will be Muslims. Russia better start wising up.

I've not heard anyone say that in a non-crisis situation the vote would go the other way. Not one.

I get that we oppose the circumstances. I get that its about a lot more than Crimea, or even the Ukraine, proper.

But let's not pretend that the people actually living in Crimea are all pizzed off they are heading back to Russia.

So would you support a re-vote under UN observers?

BBC News - Ukraine crisis: Russia faces fresh sanctions over Crimea

Putin should stop while he's ahead. Although derailing a true democratic process, he's at least won in the eyes of his people.

If he continues, however, he's going to get burned. He's already running Russia into the ground. The only reason he's getting away with it at the moment, is because he's looking like a million bucks doing it. That won't last forever though, and he'd best go ahead and call it a night while he's on top of things.

Obama announcing an expansion of sanctions on key figures in Russian politics and economy (Putin not included). Also has signed an executive order that will grant him authority to expand sanctions to key sectors of the Russian economy. Hasn't enacted that particular order yet though.
