Bought one a couple years ago. and a helmet haha

In your line of work, is that something that's typically purchased on your own or a company reimbursement/provided? I know you're an indy type, but do the big media companies do that sort of thing?

If you're staff for a major publication, they have all that stuff taken care of.

Who is the purported they behind "NATO imperialism"?

The article was ridiculously long, and I don't claim that it is completely accurate or spot-on. I took the "they" to be primarily US (and some EU) engineering behind NATO. The author basically claims that US imperialism has shifted somewhat under Obama to a more subtle version but still just as deleterious.

Armor & Carriers

Just a suggestion lol

Pretty sweet gear. Someone enlighten me: if you're a foreign mercenary (including US) going to a region where US and/or NATO forces are, do you have to have some sort of permit or contract? I know the private security forces (which I consider mercenary) have been contracted, but what about an individual?

I hope this isn't a dumb question. I legitimately don't know.

You would need a legitimate contract to perform the contract type work if I'm understanding your question correctly. You just don't drop into country and try to pick up a job.

That's what I figured. I would have a hard time imagining US forces just cordially strolling alongside an armed, unidentified man in Afghanistan.

Definitely. However, it seems that most of those contracts go to ex-military(or something similar). Not really sure if some random person can just join. Who knows haha

Depends on the company and the position applied for. Most if not all of your VIP security guys are former special ops guys in some form or fashion. But they do have just normal line animals that guard warehouses, drive trucks, etc. And it's not always military that fill those positions.

Makes sense.

Statements 2013 | Embassy of the United States Kyiv, Ukraine

Since Ukraine’s independence in 1991, the United States has supported Ukrainians as they build democratic skills and institutions, as they promote civic participation and good governance, all of which are preconditions for Ukraine to achieve its European aspirations. We’ve invested over $5 billion to assist Ukraine in these and other goals that will ensure a secure and prosperous and democratic Ukraine.

What has the U.S. spent $5 billion on?

In seriousness, I know we spent a good sum of money on disarmament.

Although it didn't say, I'm thinking that must have been a nice chunk of it

As for future assistance,

Soros: Ukraine needs European Marshall Plan - Mar. 12, 2014

"It's very important to respond, and to respond in the right way, not necessarily to impose sanctions on Russia but to help Ukraine financially," Soros said. "Something like a European Marshall Plan for Ukraine."

CNN reporting that there was an "intense" standoff between an armed Ukrainian military member (inside the base, I assume) and Russian soldiers outside. No shots fired, and no word if it's ongoing. "Was" suggests that it ended, but with news media and language, who knows.
