Ukraine Protests

You and others keep harping about the cancellation of the original European "missile defense shield". This so called shield consisted of ten inceptor missiles. Big deal. This could easily be overwhelmed.

The new system which is currently under construction in Poland, Romania and Turkey will be superior to the original.

You have zero concept of the symbolic gesture do you? Because again, we removed a system because the Russians complained and we wanted to put on the "we're nicer and kinder than our predecessor" face. And this unfortunately was interpreted as being weak by the Russians.

And that awesome new defense shield won't even be installed until 2018. And with the slashing of the military budgets, who knows if that will even happen.

The bottom line is Obama is afraid of Putin

Everyone in the world can see it but the people who voted for him and his minions in power

Liberals are not known to be strong when it comes to fighting. They would much rather pay to have someone else do the fighting for them. Liberals suffer from head in sand syndrome when it comes to observing a threat and then dealing with that threat. You can't have Liberals in power and expect the U.S. to stand strong in the world.

Are you less likely to fight a guy who looks like he can kick your ass or the one that looks like a stiff wind would blow him over?

Right now, the bike riding pansy is being picked on by the bully around the corner that keeps taking his lunch money

And it's making us look really bad

A lot of people don't understand this. Still others choose to pretend it's not the case.

Russia pulls troops and equipment along to the land border with Ukraine

Russia is concentrating troops at land borders Ukraine - these actions may indicate preparation for the invasion of the Russian side. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that there is a cluster of military equipment in the territory near the state border within the Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

It's an embarrassment. All the bluster, drawing lines, redefining the lines....It's Larry, Curly, and Mo up in the White House.

Putin - along with a lot of other world leaders - know that Obama will always blink first.

The counterpoint I make is that a number of posters here are claiming Putin has become emboldened only within the last five years (thanks Obama!).

Here Bush himself admits that Putin's character changed during Bush's presidency. The Russian became much more "cold blooded."

And specifically what strategic moves did Russia make during the Bush years? Did Putin see him as an equal in the geopolitical sphere or disrespect him at every turn like he has with Obama?

He respected Bush and knew they were playing on equal footing in the world. I mean, the man sent a note to Bush after his surgery for crying out loud. So while they might not have been friends, they certainly could sit down at a table and look each other in the eyes with respect.

The original system included a radar base in the Czech Republic. The Czech people objected resulting in a review of the entire project. The outcome being a better system, though delayed by several years.

Not his fault. Michelle complains when he farts.

Personal note; been watching this thread for an opportunity to make a Putin/pooting/fart quip. Finally was given the chance.

Thank you, Count.

Oh?

Mirek Topolanek, who was prime minister when Prague agreed to co-host the shield, said a US decision to drop it is not good news for the Czech state, for Czech freedom and independence.

In Poland, former president and Nobel laureate Lech Walesa said it might well be time for the nation to rethink its close relationship with the United States. Observing Obamas policy, I expected it, he said.

The IQ for this thread dropped 50 points as soon as Obama became part of the story and the haters jumped in.

Typical for VN.

I wish we can have threads were references to him weren't allowed. Maybe there'd be intelligent conversation.

Yep.

The problem is that unless the EU wants to impose tough economic sanctions here, and risk having their gas cut off, we have almost no leverage against Russia.

In that case, the less said, the better.

The mistake Obama made in Syria was talking tougher than he could ultimately act out. He's a lot closer to making that mistake again that erring on the side of saying too little.

Yep.

What did GW Bush do when Putin invaded Georgia, other than call the Mayor of Atlanta to ask what was going on?

According to some posters, this is different, because Bush was having to grapple with an inefficient congress in his final days.
