The battles or the war?

Number of US dead: 68,000

Number of NVA/VC dead: estimated at 1,000,000 plus.

It's impossible to fight a war when the politicians won't let you win.

Since Ras brought up the eastern front again, who do you blame most for German defeat in the east? I gotta go with Hitler more so than the Wehrmacht. If Hitler hadn't got involved I still think the Germans would at least force an armistice with Russia.

What would be a better word for this?

You mean in 1975 after we had pulled out all our combat troops and the South Vietnamese had pretty much given up?

Not what I would call the US Military being humbled.

I won't argue that. That's why we have no chance in Ukraine....a politicians war..

You do know that Russia has been for several decades the largest arms exporter in the world right???

You'll have to forgive him; he's a little slow. He's still trying to come to terms with the fact that China claims maritime territories 600 miles away from its shore (and only right of the coasts of other Asian countries) and is bullying poor little Filipino fishermen with naval ships.

The Russo-Ukrainian War is probably the truest conventional war the world has seen in awhile. Those are easier to win than fighting counter-insurgency campaigns of the past decade.

Should we have even been over there, Grand? You are still missing the big picture. Why is it of our concern?

At the time? Preventing the domino effect in SE Asia which was well under way.

And yes, I think we should have been there. But more to the point, the politicians kept out of there.

Weapons sales by each power:

Arms Sales By The US And Russia - Business Insider

Russia is all about trading peaceful items....exporting peace one tank at a time. We can look at eastern Ukraine and see what peace and peace agreements translates to as well. "Ceasefire" means finish invading what you are working on and then take a break.

Why Russian arms sales are on high octane | Russia & India Report

But in case I get accused of MSM links, let's for shiggles go with good ol' Russian Sputnik:

Russian arms exports / Sputnik International

Plenty of gems in that link. Just scroll down for some of their "peace" trade. But, yeah, the US is the death dealer of the world.

It's no different than Korea or Vietnam! Not one iota difference....

If we pulled out our troops, isn't that us giving up, as well?

Two ****ing years prior we had brokered a cease fire and removed our troops. We brought the North Vietnamese to the peace talks through airstrikes alone. AIRSTRIKES! And the North Vietnamese gave in major concessions at the Paris talks. They only attacked again after we removed our combat forces.

Seriously, have you no concept of studying history whatsoever?

In retrospect, the Domino Theory was a flawed theory, wouldn't you agree?

And this NATO/Article 5 agreement, wouldn't you agree that today, that is a flawed situation?

Or our efforts in the Ukraine and the ME... also flawed ideas?

We have people crossing our borders illegally everyday and we have an eroding infrastructure here in the US, yet, we are escapading around the world trying to enforce the historically porous borders of Ukraine and Russia and the artificial borders in the Middle East drawn up by the Sykes-Picot Agreement 100 years ago.

You don't think the introduction of NATO troops would crush the DNR/LNR forces within weeks?

It would be met with an equal, if not greater show of force from Russia. You all have been complaining about Russian border crossings before, but if NATO troops put boots on the ground in Eastern Ukraine, it will be on like Donkey Kong.

Did you cut and paste this from somewhere else?

Escapading is kind of a big word for you. Not really a word either, but I'll let it slide.

But it does remind me:

I was a beast at dancing the running man to this.

But wait... what reason would NATO troops even need to be in Ukraine? Article 5?

Speaking hypothetically if you couldn't tell. We saw last summer that the DNR/LNR would easily be crushed if Russia suspended the transfer of men and war material. If it wasn't for the last second Russian intervention last spring it would have been over by now.
