Ukraine Protests

I may have missed it but, any truth to the deal between Russia and turkey over natural gas? If so its a big blow to the U.S.

Why is it a blow to the US?

The US put pressure on Bulgaria to block Russia's Southstream gas pipeline through southeastern Europe to serve Germany and Austria.

How does a gas deal between Russia and Germany even affect us and why is it any of our business?

which is kinda funny considering their hate against the evil of NATO and all things American. Instead of building the pipeline in Ukraine giving them a common cause to help heal wounds (real or imagined) they instead go to the 'enemy of the free world: NATO' instead. if it is Russia offering an olive branch to NATO I would love it but I feel this is more of a rebuttal against Ukraine than anything.

Ukraine has been stealing gas for years and with Kiev under the control of the US, it doesn't make sense for them to continue that relationship. Plus, the pipelines in Ukraine are the oldest and highest to maintain. Germany relies on 40% of their energy imports to come from Russia. All these sanctions and Ukrainian antics are doing is hurting one of last strong economies in Western Europe.

Turkey may end up pivoting east in the long run, so I wouldn't go so far to call this even a minor victory for NATO.

you know turkey really really hates your boy's boy Assad right? and they aren't too fond of Iran either (not many people are). so until something changes there I doubt they change sides.

Working on foreign countries?

[Just curious, not prodding for you to disclose what ought not to be disclosed]

Working for the department of the army that is all we are allowed to do. Can't collect on U.S. citizens Executive Order 12333. We watch hotspots and based on history explain why something is happening and predict the next geopolitical move. Military commanders love being kept abreast of the latest trends. It allows them to adjust training if necessary.

Pakistan?

Is Eastern Asia likely to become a troublesome hot spot in the next decade? I have mixed feelings about China.

Earlier American policy was supposed to pivot to Asia, then other stuff got in the way.

Uzbek president asks Putin to help fight radical Islam in Central Asia | Reuters

Uzbekistan urged Russia on Wednesday to help protect Central Asia against what it said would be a rising threat from militant Islam as U.S. forces draw down their numbers in Afghanistan.

President Islam Karimov said Central Asia, a resource-rich and mainly Muslim region nestled between Russia, China and Afghanistan, could face a fate similar to that of Iraq, swathes of which have been taken over by Islamic State insurgents.

Russia should use its military to babysit instead of invading Europe.

Russian officials said Moscow also planned to forgive $865 million in Uzbek debt.

Merry Christmas.

IMO the situation in Pakistan remains status quo. The strategy in Asia is one based in economic relationships and strategic counterbalances to regional rivals.

IMO there is more growing interest in the African continent that concerns more than Ebola.

I remember overhearing a J2 brief on China in Africa. Wasn't pleasant.

BBC News - Russia Baltic military actions 'unprecedented' - Poland

After getting worn out on this CIA report I decided to venture back into watching Russia for the next CIA operation. dug up some more MSM lies and slander and found an obviously biased report and study on the Russian uptick in air traffic. In their bull in the china shop approach to blaming Russia for everything and non stop excuse making for war the report finds:paraphrasing 'despite the disturbing increase there is no cause for alarm'

Critics say the same about the United States.

The difference being is that we dont use U.S. nationalized businesses. China does not employ the local populace in their ventures be it for labor or security. The U.S. does. We work deals through international businesses for cheaper trade. We go into an area in order to stabilize it for development. China doesnt care if it is stable or not.
