UK Fans Upset With Singing of Rocky Top

There were a couple of Kentucky fans in the UT section where I was, and it was so obvious they thought us all obnoxious. It must hurt to hear chants of ORANGE...WHITE...ORANGE...WHITE over your entire stadium from one section near the end zone. 20+ years of losing to one team will do that to you though, and it was probably made worse by the way it ended. If we blow them out in the second half like we did in the first I doubt most of them would be belly aching like this right now.

Well then they need to talk to that Kentucky player who nearly killed Eric Berry with that facemask grab in overtime. He should have been ejected from the game because of that dirty play!

yah, that facemask would have been grounds for an arse beating,,

I had no idea how much UK despised us. I knew they hated us but I didn't know how bad it was and they really had no class at all.

Nahh, you have to understand. When you lose 23 straight times to the same team, you are not going to be loved. That´s the nature of the beast.

I don´t hate Tennesseans or Tennessee fans. I have a lot of family (no uncle-brothers, sorry!) who are somesuch.

I just hate losing to them. Big difference.

I can´t speak for the classless fans. I´ve been a season tix holder for UK for a long time, and it´s rare to see someone get heckled or boo´d.

By the way, do you mean to tell me that at Neyland, you never boo the other team when they take the field?! Even Bama?

Brian, Good game man. Woodson is a really good player. This was the game I feared the most and for good reason. I was just wanting to say good game and to get your thoughts on UT vs LSU.

I had no idea how much UK despised us. I knew they hated us but I didn't know how bad it was and they really had no class at all. I was sitting in the Kentucky section and the people below me and behind me were yelling and cussing the band every time they played Rocky Top. They even booed when we had an injured player and when Berry got jerked down by his facemask someone right behind me yelled "good, break his neck!". On our walk to the stadium we kept getting yelled at and booed by UK fans but all I had to do was say 22 to shut them up lol.

Despised is a word that doesn't fit the category for the "typical" UK fan. You should be here right before the football season starts. Every year before the season starts the call in shows ask the fans that call in "if KY could only win one game this season, who would you want it to be?" The answer 99% of the time is UT. Nah, they don't despise, it's a hatred.

I doubt that KY will have a team as good as this for some time to come. They should be proud of their season, but they need to also prepare themselves for reality coming... post Woodson. Back to mediocrity...

I've lived in KY all my life (36 years) and I don't know the words to My Old KY Home. I do know Rocky Top though..... :dance2:

You learn what´s important to you.

I learned them as a child and still can sing them from memory.

You think they would just do what other schools do and let their band start playing with the fans start singing Rocky Top.

And you are are right, they are not bringing up basketball season this year are they? :)

Never. We always applaud respectfully and wish them a good game. :) Our band does play every opponents fight song in pregame though.

Until we started winning a little, some fans used to play "keep away" with opponent´s extra point balls, eventually throwing them up to the second deck, then over the side. It was funny as heck hearing 70,000 fans chanting, "throw it out! throw it out!"

:p

Then 2 years ago, they put up nets to prevent the ball from going into the stands, but they sagged by midseason, and the majority went into the stands again.

Well I've missed very few UT games since I started going in 1976 and yesterday was the FIRST time I've heard UT's band booed while on the field. They were performing their Salute to Tennessee circle drill show where they play different songs for different parts of the state. To represent Knoxville, they played Rocky Top and the KY fans in the stands started booing. It's probably the rudest thing I've ever heard in my life.

Come on guys, this is pretty absurd. I boo every time I hear the opposing band play their fight song at Neyland. This isn't rude, this is college football and good-natured fun. If I was a Kentucky fan, I'd be booing at Rocky Top every time. With regards to the booing during our halftime show, I think they were upset because our band was obviously much better than theirs. Who the hell cares that they were booing our band - it's their duty. That being said.....can we queue up Rocky Top one more time???

To everyone who has talked about Kentucky fans being classless and talking trash before the game, I can't say that I had the same experience. I never once heard any trash talking. It was my first trip to Lexington and was a good experience. I actually thought the Bama fans were classy this year too. However, the same can't be said in Gainesville this year or Athens last year - those places are full of a$$holes.

all i know is that i could barely hear anyone singing my old kentucky home. VOL fans singing rocky top was MUCH louder than the UK fans singing MOKH
