CBS commentator on the halftime show is pressed the question "Did the SEC go far enough in fining Tennessee $5,000 for storming the court?" the jerk says NO! So my question to him is... Did the Big East go far enough in... NOT FINING THE HOYAS AT ALL for storming the court after beating Duke??!?!?! C'mon jackass.

yeah, that's absurd, but that's CBS for you.

What do they want; armed guards with pit bulls on the sidelines? This is the most manufactured controversey I've ever seen.

This is a can of worms, but anytime a rule is made after an extreme circumstance like the kid getting piled on by a crowd and dying, then reporting loses all context. I thought and still think the fans rushing onto the floor was quite orderly and did not appear dangerous at all.

If it weren't for a few unfortunate instances this would be a complete non story.

What I don't understand is that they keep claiming this rule was created after the USC-Clemson brawl/debacle... but that had NOTHING to do with fans?! Point being, this has gone on for years, and years... and years. The chance of injury and danger is no greater than trying to leave the game in a crowd...

Isn't the fine for the same violation on the football field much stiffer?

Of course, Kentucky hasn't won a significant game to be able to do that for years, so I wouldn't know. :p

Didn't the fans storm the field for the LSU game that year? That was brutal.

Yeah, they stormed the field, after losing...

No, the penalties are exactly the same whether it is football or bball. 5K first offense, up to 25K for second, and up to 50K for 3+.

Are those penalties just for one year, or do they carry over to each season? Say the UT fans storm the court some time next season, is it just $5K again or up to $25K?

Idiots.

And Jared Lorenzen dumped Gatorade on Kentucky coach. Oh the everloving pain.

Nice! :lolabove:

Was it last year when the Cats fans kept throwing the ball out of Commonwealth after extra points? Against UGA?

The tradition started in '04 against Georgia, was renewed this year against Auburn and I think UT, also. The fans were fed up with crappy football, so as a protest, the fans started doing it.

It's one of our funniest traditions. Here's what happens: When we're playing really poorly, and the opponent scores a fieldgoal or extra point, the fans in the end zone stands don't throw it back to the Equipment Manager. Instead, they throw it to the next section over before the Event Staff can tackle them and wrest it away from them. It usually gets about halfway around the stadium before somebody tries to throw it up over the pressbox to the second tier. Then they keep throwing it back until the last person sends it sailing out of the stadium, at which point, the fans cheer like hell.

Against Georgia, Event Staff picked on 2 Georgia fans who passed the ball on by throwing them out, at which point the Kentucky fans started booing. This year, the Event Staff didn't fight it, just let them do it.

The only problem was, that when we arrived at Commonwealth in September for the first home game this year, they had put up endzone nets to deter the new practice. They blocked all the extra points until the Auburn game, when the cables were starting to sag under the weight of the net. About 3-4 balls made it over the net, and the tradition was reborn.

I don't know whether to find that completely hilarious or actually feel a little sorry for how sad the state of UK football has become.

Nevermind. That's just hilarious.

I won't even make any obligatory Randy Sanders references here.

You would think that UK football would eventually have come around. They have nice facilities. I really like Commonwealth.

Actually the rule is very odd. There is an indefinite time between the first and second offense, however the third offense is only fineable if it happens within a year after the second offense. Typical insane SEC rule.

Thanks for the compliment. I keep thinking every year that it's bound to come around sometime, but with yearly appointments against the Vols, Gators, and Bulldogs, it's hard to build momentum. Our loss streak to the Vols and Gators are the 2nd and 3rd longest losing streaks in the country, next to Army (or is it Navy?)losing to Notre Dame.

We have great facilities, a very good coaching staff, and a football-minded AD. The pieces are in place if the fans will be patient with Brooks. If he can pull off 6 wins this year and get to year 5 of his contract, I think we'll see a surprising turnaround done the right way, fundamentally sound football rather than smoke and mirrors a/la mumme.

Its Navy losing like 40 or something insane like that in a row to ND.

At the risk of hijacking this thread to talk about UK Football (its my thread anyhow, get over it) I was REALLY impressed /w Pulley against the Vols. I kinda hate to see that Woodson is going to be back, b/c it puts Brooks in a very similar QB controversy to what the Vols faced this year.

I sure hope he uses Pulley instead... I know he threw a few into coverage a la big interceptions for us, but the kid showed some TALENT. He was/is young... /w experience comes decision making.
