I hear what your saying but if thats the case then why would some teams go with a silent count
Even with a silent count the offense knows or has a general idea when the ball will be snapped.
The only advantage that an offense line has is the first strike as in they know when the ball is snapped as to move first. Ideally, a quick offensive lineman who knows the snap count could hit a defensive line before they get moving. Its the only advantage that I ever had.
It is 100% a penalty to attempt to mimic the snap. The defense can call audibles but not sudden screams or anything that would remotely mimic the offense snap call. For example, the defense can't say "Hut" or "GO" when the offense is set.
With a team that practices a cadence of down, set, hut. The offense team may go on any of those calls but usually on go. If a defense is yelling "hutch" really hard and loud as the offense is set would be a penalty.
I would not be surprised if this was going on. I said something first quarter when the ball was hiked in JG belly. However, not sure why we couldn't adjust. Offensive line is experience but not experience together which is a big difference.
