UF leaps us in Net rankings after Saturday's results

You may want to look at the season as a whole and who the #1 seeds were before you spout false information. We were a #2 seed in 2019 but did not win the SEC regular season or tournament that year. We were a #3 seed in 2022 after winning the tournament but we were 3rd in the league during the regular season. If you feel we deserved a #1 seed either of those years please spell out a rational argument other than the same old “the committee just wants to screw us” narrative.

#BVS
You may be right but last year it could have gone either way. It is not BVS and if it was I would want a 1 seed this year. I think this team can win the NCAA as a 2 through 8 seed. So winning the SEC regular season and the SEC Tourney not factors, helps but not factors. I would like to place close to home and if a 2 seed dictates that then so be it.

As I recall, UNC had one more Quad 1 win last year than we did, so they got the nod for the final #1 seed. As for this year, I’m very confident after yesterday that we’ll be playing in Lexington the first weekend of the NCAAT, regardless of region.

I hope you are right regarding the region. North Carolina given the nod over us 2 times 2019 as well. Florida is over us in Net, we have 4 more Quad 1 wins than they do. It does not make sense.
Except for the Efficiency Ratings. Defense does not figure into the mix.
We are playing better defense the 2nd half I am beginning to believe by design.

Not so fast, this is not BVS, it happened a few years ago fact and we ended up a 2 Seed.
What's more, we won the Conference tourney, the regular season and still got a 2 Seed.
So call it what you want but it is not BVS. It is the committee adjusting to their wants.
The committee doesn’t secretly operate the NET rankings. If you look at the groupings of teams around 30 and 75, you’ll see the biggest influence on teams’ rankings outside of their own wins and losses. When a team drops out of Q1 win by dropping below the 30 or 75 line, they hurt the NET rating of teams that beat them.

I not implying that they secretly work the Net rankings. 12 committee members with their own agendas come together to sort most of this out. Sometimes it is obvious and sometimes it is not. Most of the time they do not address the why with the exception of who is in or out.

BUBBA CUNNINGHAM (2025) – North Carolina Athletic Director (Chairperson)
MARK COYLE (2026) – Minnesota Athletic Director
GREG BYRNE (2026) – Alabama Athletic Director
KEITH GILL (2026) – Sun Belt Commissioner (Vice-Chairperson)
LEE REED (2026) – Georgetown Athletic Director
MARTIN NEWTON (2027) – Samford Athletic Director
TOM WISTRCILL (2027) – Big Sky Commissioner
ARTHUR JOHNSON (2028) – Temple Athletic Director
IRMA GARCIA (2029) – Manhattan Athletic Director
STU JACKSON (2029) – West Coast Conference Commissioner
ZACK LASSITER (2029) – Abilene Christian Athletic Director
CHAD WEIBERG (2029) – Oklahoma State Athletic Director

This is the first year not wondering about a Seed except location. This team is one of 8 that can win it all. Their will be Cinderella's regardless. Location, Location, Location. Defense carries.

Carolina had 11 Quad One wins in 2019. We only had 10. They also shared the regular season ACC title with Virginia that year while we tied for 2nd in the SEC. The ACC was the best conference that year with three #1 seeds, so there ya go. As I said earlier, the committee has shown they value number of Quad One wins when separating teams, regardless of NET ranking.

i wouldn’t say its that we play better defense at the end.

It’s that we are better conditioned than 99% of teams we play and our relentless defense wears out teams. And it pays dividends in the final 10-12 minutes when teams start to lose their legs.

I hope they do this year, but if they don't it is ok. As far as Florida is concern head to head 1-1.
Winning the thing is more important than a 1 seed vs 2 seed. In some cases a 2 seed would/could be a more favorable path.

Agreed. I appreciate the back & forth discussion. Some on here go at these things with pure emotion regardless of what the data says. Facts are always your friend. GBO

The adjustments on the corner 3 in the 2nd half and Alabama's shooting dropping 15% says a lot about the conditioning, defensive adjustments and intensity. The refs kept Alabama in the game as well with no calls, critical calls and fouls. It also in a few cases help us as well I am sure but can't remember a single one. Bottom Line: Our Coach is Better than theirs.

Bama will put them out of their misery on Wednesday. Then Auburn will dispose of Bama again next Saturday.
I think UF is more than capable of beating Bama. Frankly, I expect them to do just that.

I agree. Emotions play into fandom and this thread/forum/Volnation is always going to have emotional responses regardless of the facts. For example, Rece Davis went out of his way yesterday to make comments about Tennessee no call on fouls, not once but twice. Bama Homer.
Second last few days he shared his comments on why Tennessee is not a final 4 contender.
Flip ESPN off. No just turn it down. I am not sure what his beaf is with Tennessee but the man is B*** hurt.
Next is Fowler in Football. Mr Trailer Park.

Hard to keep the emotion out of it when the number 1 Sports Broker constantly gaslights your program on the National Stage.

Just throwing this out there but, if we win out and your prediction is correct, we will be the 2 seed in the SEC tournament.

If we win out . . . Does that equal a 1 seed? Nope. The requirement will then move to how we perform in the SEC tournament is my guess. Bottom line - UT / UF / Bama will all be really close at the end of the season. If Bama loses to UF and Bama . . . They will fall out of contention for a 1 seed period. If they beat both, they will most certainly be back in consideration.

I think UT ends up a 2 seed because we split the last two games . . . Or we only win one In the SEC tournament. However, UT is good enough and gritty enough to win these last two. But the conference is so stacked . . . IF the SEC tourney has any bearing on seeding (maybe it doesn’t), we might need to make the finals or even win it to get a 1 seed.

I doubt the SEC gets 3 one seeds. Currently it would be Auburn, Florida, Duke, and Houston I think.
I disagree with all this!

We are currently on the 1 line. If we win our last two, regardless of SEC tourney, we still will get a 1 seed! The selections are made Friday/Saturday, meanwhile, championship game is Sunday, so technically it won’t matter!!

Same thing that happened a few seasons ago when we won SEC tourney, put up a good fight for a 2 seed but was still given a 3 seed !

I complain every selection Sunday “what’s the point of NET if they aren’t going to use it?”

So I wouldn’t worry

It's a component and it can and does indirectly influence a team's NET by affecting their adjusted net efficiency rating.
Margin of victory itself is no longer a component. It was in the initial version. Not arguing that margin of victory can affect efficiency. It can and sometimes not as much.

It's not a direct component but if it necessarily affects efficiency rating than it is indeed a piece of NET calculation.

Lunardi has us as a #1. But I've seen analysts saying that if either Bama or UF win out they will jump back over us for the #1 seed.
