When you're nervous, angry, anxious or drunk you're native accent takes over. Ever hear people swear in the first language even though they've been speaking perfect English since they were a kid? It's natural for when you're emotional that you pull up that first language even if you learn 2 or more languages very young. Accents come out strong under the same circumstances.

When you're nervous, angry, anxious or drunk you're native accent takes over. Ever hear people swear in the first language even though they've been speaking perfect English since they were a kid? It's natural for when you're emotional that you pull up that first language even if you learn 2 or more languages very young. Accents come out strong under the same circumstances.

Southern isn't my native accent but when I am mad or drunk it comes out really thick.

That could be because southern has a laziness and slur to it that alcohol naturally helps bring out. I knew a guy who was from here but had no thick accent but when he got drunk he was hilariously cornpone southern.
