We have a very big alum and donor from Illinois that pronounces it the same way. It's just how people from the north say it. Blood still runs orange, chill.

Our football coach and staff had a funny video of them learning to pronounce it. Midwesterners have trouble with it but once they realize it pronounced like "ball" but with V they pick it up. But accents do dictate both what you hear and can pronounce easily - I'm from here and I stumble all over the word 'rural' - just isn't an easy word for me.
