Tony Jones said Tyler is not going anywhere next season tonight on the UT Locker Room. He said that tyler has a lot to learn and is looking forward to his junior year....not really a surprise.

I don't really think Tyler Smith is NBA ready regardless... since he's projected to play the 2 or 3 he needs to work on his outside shot.

Glad to hear he's staying.

I've never heard of him being mentioned a 2 but he is a definite 3. There is absolutely no way he would play 2 on any level. He is one of the most complete players on the team. To play the 3 he doesnt need an outside shot he just needs a solid midrange and inside game. I think he will be a solid NBA player. I'll take his word on him returning or not when the season is over though.

Personally, I think Tyler's gone after this season. If he's projected late first or early second (like I've seen him projected), I'd be surprised if he didn't leave.

But hey, not worried about next year right now. We're about to be No. 2, baby!! With a shot at No. 1!! Doesn't get much better than that :)

I think if Tyler Smith has a tournament like Tyrus Thomas did a couple years ago, he might consider going pro. There's just no telling, but I hope coach Jones is correct in his prediction.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tyler has a child, correct? That might influence his decision to stay or go...

You are right, there is no telling...but the way Jones commented on this tonight, he was saying that this was coming from Tyler on staying for his junior year. He was basically quoting Tyler and that he wanted to stay.

He's no Tyrus Thomas.

Yeah, he's 100x more skilled.

And if you're a second round pick, you don't go early. The contracts are terrible for second rounders. I would think that with a guaranteed contract staring him in the face at picks 15-20, he would go though.

Not a surprise. At all.

Not a surprise. At all.

I was coincidentally sitting next to his high school coach at the WKU game. He expected/hoped Tyler would stay another year too. I doubt we'll have him for his senior year though, but that will at least give us another scholly for '09, and putting Tyler in the NBA will help recruiting.

If he left after this season it wouldn't neccessarily be a disaster either. Like ukvols said, putting players in the NBA is a top priority. It's the only way to sign top 10 players. If we don't get Hopson and we lose Tyler next year will be ugly, but as long as we get one, UT will manage.

He is nowhere near ready to go pro. He doesn't shoot well enough. But if some team was stupid enough to actually take him 17th, he'd be just as stupid not to take their money and run.

That draft net is total BS.. theres no way at all, that Russel Westbrook from UCLA shoud be drafted over OJ Mayo..
No freakin way at all..
and Brook lopez at 3rd.. no way.. and Deandre Jordan at 6.. thats way to high.. he's the lesser version of brandon Wright from last year.. and we all know what he is doin in the nba this year.. nothing
there are plenty of other picks on there that are way to off..
