Who was the young man that had mono that passed away if you don't mind me asking?

Jeff Taylor. Played at Samford for the guy who went to LSU as head coach. Can't remember his name. Jeff passed away from colon cancer three years ago this December. Great person, family man, Christian.

How can he coach? Did he even graduate college?

No idea if Smith has his degree. But high schools and middle schools using non-faculty members as coaches is very common place these days.
