a better answer to his question would be that as terrible as we think Kentucky is these days they were 10 times worse in the 90's. The mere act of putting Kentucky and Defense in the same sentence during football season would get you laughed out of a room. This myriad head coaches UK had during that period would have traded straight up for our current defense over what they had and threw in their starting running back for good measure.Kentucky was 5-6 that year and won two conference games: Vanderbilt (of course) and a 4-7 Alabama team. Alabama wasn't very good back then (the good ole days).
Kentucky allowed 33 points and 392 yards per game.
Younger fans have no real idea just how bad UK and Vandy used to be and A lot of older fans are so complacent they have no idea how much better both teams have become over the years. The SEC as a whole has improved immensely over the past Decade. As in the gap between the SEC and everyone else is bigger but the gap between the team in the SEC is smaller.
We still have the same number of teams at the top each year 2 or 3 are clearly the tops and another 2 or 3 in that second set. For 3 decades UT lived in that second set and snuck into that top 3 from time to time. Now if we let patients take over the asylum we might not ever get back.
Firing Fulmer was stupid. Not because he deserved his job but because of WHY he got fired. Moron fans thought he was not producing enough even though no one had ever produced like him before and we could do better. That worked out great.
Now Dooley, who was put in an almost impossible situation, is on the verge of turning it around and those same morons and their now almost grown kids are setting mattresses on fire again.
