Two reasons Butch is not gone

Absolutely its about bringing money in to the university. They wont make a move until they see that the cash cow is going away . I hate Bama but Bama would go 20 million in the red to win championships but very few programs look at it that way. Ut has always tried to turn the most profit for least investment and thats why we are where we are. They truly take advantage of the loyalty of our fans.
It's why i laugh when people say UT has terrible fans. They've enabled them to make crap hires and do exactly what you said. They're loyal to a fault and gullible, they've took that to the bank

to those that think this won't affect recruiting are fooling yourselves...keeping Butch till the end of the season will affect everything about Vol football...except maybe most of the fanbase who are loyal to a fault anyway...we can't help ourselves...:)...:peace2:

4 more games with Jones. It's going to feel like a lifetime..

Perhaps I’m being silly for caring enough to not want to lose eight games for the first time.
It’s shameful that Currie is content to just sit there and let it happen.

One plausible reason for the delay is that almost all 'home run' choices are currently employed and involved in conference races or competing for New Years bowl games. They would not want their departure to become public at this time.

In that line of thought, Currie might believe, rightly so, that announcing Jones firing should be followed very quickly by introducing the new coach.

If neither (a) or (b) is part of the equation, then Currie and his various 'bosses' are completely out of touch with their fan base.

Everybody is wringing hands over recruiting. So what? Jones has a roster filled with his "outstanding" recruiting classes and cannot win a damned game! He is a pi$$ poor recruiter that has people fooled.

A good, quality coach will fill the recruiting room with the RIGHT players for the RIGHT position for the RIGHT school and then coach and motivate them the RIGHT way. A high quality coach will not run off winners or watch them languish on the bench.

GO BIG ORANGE! ... and go away Lyle Jones!

Great Post! When I look at the UMASS game, a little team that came in 0-4, everyone knew we'd win-most thought we'd win BIG TIME. The UMASS coach-knew how to coach, took the players he had, and used them to the best of his ability-he is an example of a real coach. The UMASS team went home with their heads held high-they left with the respect of Football fans, and a reminder of what a real coach can do.:hi:

I would have to say I don't see the logic in the article.

1. Butch already has an agreed buyout, so why do you need to negotiate a buyout when that has already been negotiated?

2. The Coach O situation only gave LSU more options, not less.

Sure looks that way. If he wanted to save this season i think he would have made a move by now. These kids don't improve from week to week. No discipline, fundamentals are awful, not playing your best players. It's a big mess the fans are tired of watching.

The reasons given by Austin Stanley's sources seem measured and wise. Anyone who's spent at least 20 years in a Baptist or similarly governed church can appreciate the potential for irreparable damage when mixing the volatile chemicals fired, hired, and interim.

The reasons(?) offered by the host in disagreeing with his sources seemed to betray limited lifetime experiences.

In another 40 years Austin may be a wise old man. For now... well, he's on-schedule.

Our recruiting class will be outside the top 25.

Down from 6th to 11th after 3 decommits. C.Mayes took visit to Clemson this wknd. and Ohio State trying to flip him too. House coming down brick by brick.

Checked on UF and they have 0 decommits this year.

I can understand the hesitancy about the money situation. 24 million on a coaching change isn't nothing and shouldn't be taken lightly. If he's communicated with other coaches or their agents and given them a timeline then I don't think we're missing out. TN and Florida are likely competing for similar options, but I don't think there's an option out there right now that will be terrible to lose to Florida if it comes down to it. If it costs 12 million just to compete with Florida, then Florida can have whoever they want. That's irresponsible to blow money like that if you're not competing for Urban Meyer or Nick Saban. I think the negotiation on a buyout is probably the biggest driving factor behind the lack of movement from Currie. Keep in mind that a new coach may want to retain some of these guys like Gillespie, so we likely won't see the full staff buyout.

I can't see him sitting on his hands being afraid of how much the lockerroom will love the interim. If he's doing his job and hiring a good coach, the lockerroom will move on from the interim in a hurry.

Doesn't matter if the seats are empty, The tickets have already been sold, The money is in the bank...They win regardless.

And while the board is in town this week, to hear about Currie's stadium renovation plans. Should be interesting to hear from Currie about his presentation.

This one's pretty funny, especially point #25, When can We Start: "They said we need to put this program back on top. I said, 'When can we start?'" cbj

Highlights from John Currie's Meeting with the Tennessee Board of Trustees after South Carolina Loss - YouTube

Looks as the foundation is on sand / is sinking, as we're nearing the bottom of SEC.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but the part about his buyout going down not making a bowl isn't true right? I've seen most news outlets post this but was curious where it was found to be false info?

Makes sense and especially the second part.

Money ALWAYS makes sense and especially if the buyout can be reduced "significantly. But that STILL means Jones will probably be fired before the end of the season unless they go into Vandy at 5-6.

I heard something on 104.5 that Hyams made a statement after Southern Miss he though it would be done.. Mark Howard said that anyway..

The Tennessee Vols brand is being destroyed right in front of our eyes.

No amount of money is worth the bad publicity this is giving us. Curry continues to show he is not the man for the job while Florida is jumping ahead once more.

Boycott all Tennessee games and merchandise until he is gone

Only into the fourth page? Methinks the KY loss has taken a toll on the virulent FF posters.

The important thing is that when Currie makes a move, he makes the right move. The next hire needs to build up the program. If Currie shrewdly handles the coaching change, it will benefit Tennessee and mute somewhat the flurry of online invective.

We probably will not fire jones until the end of the year. We will get to see how these up and comes pan out. Unfortunately we also may see them hired before our eyes. It is a swirling sh@t storm.
