Two Deep UNC roster

Looks like everyone on O-line is 300 lbs or better. The way our line needs to get. I know nothing about the Tar Heels. Who are their best players?

QB Yates had a superb season.
WR Jones is an excellent young talent; several of their wideouts have excellent potential.
LB Carter is an NFL prospect as is LB Studivant.
DE Moss has excellent potential.
OL Hurst is a superb young lineman.
DB Deunta Williams is another NFL prospect.

They are, basically, very comparable to us, except their QB has much more experience and their LB corps more talent.

They are scary similar on offense statistically. However, their defense is MUCH better than ours.

They also play in the ACC which is 2nd only to the Big Least in the category of "Conferences that don't deserve BCS bids"

Their front seven is better than ours and they have more depth, but their secondary is not as good as ours, nor is their special teams overall. Their linebacking core is probably the best in the country, Bruce Carter (First Round Pick Next Year), Sturdivant and Kevin Reddick. Quinton Couples was a first team All ACC D-Lineman and Jhermaine Boyd tore it up at the start of the season at WR (200 yards against LSU), but I think an injury slowed him towards the end.

Their secondary has serious issues and their running backs are durable but not great. They have had a lot of injuries at running back and Ryan Houston I think was suspended. The are playing 3rd or 4th string players due to injury in their secondary, losing a couple players towards the end of the season. Duenta (sic) Willaims a K. Burney are too good players but they have 0 depth in the secondary and 2/4 positions are BIG WEAKNESSES. The left side of their o-line may be their weakness with the fr. and soph starters, although J. Hurst (fr.) is going to be a very good player.

Injury wise they have had a lot of injuries to important players towards the end of the year. Johnny White their first or second team rb was injured towards the end of the year. Think he played in the Duke game, but may have been reinjured. Their tight end, Zach P., who a really good player, was also injured, not sure if he will be back for the bowl game.

My wife is a Carolina fan (yes, it's already getting interesting in the house), so I've managed to catch a couple of their games this year. Here's what I can think of off the top of my head.

LB Bruce Carter is an animal. He's all over the field, seriously. I'm going to be very surprised if he's not taken within the first 16 picks of the draft. He's that good.

LB Quan Sturdivant is another one. He's got low first-high second round ability. If there's a dropoff between one side of LB'ers and the other, it's not a lot.

RB/PR/KR Da'Norris Searcy is quick as a hiccup. Out of all of UNC's players, he's the one I'm going to be watching the most. He IS what we're hoping that Devrin Young can be.....electric with the ball in his hands.

I don't remember his first name, but the DE by the name of Moss, if my memory serves me correctly, was the #1 DE prospect in the nation a couple years back.

QB T.J. Yates reminds me a lot of Crompton (pre- and post-awakening). He has times where he looks really good, and their offense moved quite well. However, if the opposing DL can start getting a little pressure on him, he tends to get flustered, and will throw up INT's.

As previously stated, their secondary is not very good at all, and I think will have a hell of a time covering DMo, GJ, and Bones. Tauren may not have the best of days on the ground (realistically, I'm expecting sub-100 yards), but as soon as Tyler gets in a rhythm, it's going to be fun to watch. I'll post more information about their roster as I think of it, but as it stands now, I'm looking at 31-21 Big Orange.

EDIT: Da'Norris Searcy is a SS, not a RB. My bad.

Nice assessment. I agree our secondary is a work in progress. At the begining of the year, first couple of games I think we only had one starter back there and he was playing out of position due to suspensions. We had ture freshman playing. They slowely got better then we were hit with injuries so now most of the guys playing would have never seen the field this year and would have probably redshirted.

Good reviews guys. The more I think about it, I think our secondary has gotten a lot better since A. Evans has been removed from the lineup and Waggner has been moved to corner. I thought Evans was a major weakness in regards to tackling and covering and I really think our secondary has looked great the past 4 weeks. Brewer has been a big reason for that as well.

I think Teague is our weakness in the secondary. He has gotten beat too many times this year.

Teague is a marginal player so far in his career; his lack of size hurts his ability to play WR while his average speed and so-so tackling ability render him average-to-below-average in the 2ndary.
