Two Deep Depth Chart Released

The usual piling on Jumper as expected. Our D as a whole will be much improved and Jumper is a better than serviceable mlb. Shoop's system is pretty complex from what I've read and this being the second year in it should make a big difference. Hope y'all are man enough to eat your crow when it's served. I'll eat mine if the plate is passed this way.

How many other SEC schools would Jumper start for? Remember, he wasn't even our starter either before Kirkland got hurt.

It ain't a good situation.

Tatum is better at tackle. Tatum is actually the best tackle on the team in terms of talent. He's a future NFL starting caliber LT.
You lost me at LT. You are saying the backup RT who is at best the 3rd option for LT is a starting caliber NFL LT? If you were anywhere in the zipcode of right we would have some of the best tackles in college football to have an NFL STARTING caliber guy 3rd on the depth chart at LT and 2nd at RT.

Do you read your posts before you hit enter? If you had said RT maybe you had a point. Because this team has a glut of RT's and guards. We still haven't proven we have an SEC caliber starter at LT tbh on the entire roster.

He would have seen considerable playing time with Kirkland healthy. He was the #2. I don't know the starting situation at other sec schools so I won't pretend to know the answer to that question.

Our D will surprise you this year, I think. Like I said, if I'm wrong I'll eat my crow.

Last year, the only other SEC East schools that Jumper would have seen playing time at were Kentucky and Mizzou. Not even Vandy, because they had a MLB that was a 2nd round draft pick.

In the West, I'm not entirely sure, but it is safe to say he would not see the field at Alabama, Auburn, LSU, A&M, and probably Ole Miss. I could see Arkansas and Miss St, who have terrible defenses.

We have pathetic depth at that position. SEC bottom-feeder/non-P5 type depth.

Kyle Phillips not starting and Wiggins being 3rd team are both unexpected.

Also looks like we are going to rotate a lot of bodies at wr

I was hearing on the radio that Beard did not want to rotate the WR group like Azzanai. The best 4 will play a lot.

Well, he had a situation tailor-made to make it to Atlanta last year, failed, and brings back a team this year that isn't as good (on paper). It's asking quite a bit for this team to win the East, particularly when Georgia is better and Florida might have a QB.

This team is simply not as talented as you think it is, and I think you put way too much stock in star ratings and overall recruiting class rankings rather than looking at our depth chart relative to other schools in the conference. At this point in 2017, I don't really care where our 2015 recruiting class was ranked. We know how those players more or less turned out, and we can begin to analyze the depth chart now because those 2015 recruits are/should be contributors.

Butch has recruited good frontline talent at a number of positions, which has led to those good class rankings. However, at a number of position groups (linebacker and defensive line in particular), the depth chart is not particularly deep, and the secondary generally speaking is not very good.

No. Florida is a mess right now and Georgia is not as talented as the media makes them out. We are FAR AND AWAY the most talented team in the SEC East. We have the most experience. We have the best QB, best RB, and best defense in the division. There is zero excuse to not winning the division and playing for the SEC Championship in Atlanta this season.

Any coach who is even semi-competent could do it. If Butch can't get it done this year it might be time for the program to move ahead and find a coach who is actually ELITE.

Maybe I'm alone here but I'm not OK with mediocrity. Just being 9-4 isn't good enough at Tennessee. Its championship or bust here. And until this fanbase and administration recognizes that should be the standard, we'll continue to be a mediocre football team.

Breaking news from D4H! The Vols are so talented, UT administration has decided to leave the SEC and join the AFC. Sources project the team's 15 future hall of famers will catapult the Vols into the superbowl and end New England's dominance.

I kid. But, c'mon man.

Lol

I keep seeing this....'we don't develop enough talent'...

Wasn't Jumper a preferred walk on? Now he's a starting MLB...

I mean....is that not development? Lol.

If Colton Jumper was actually good then you might have a point. But he's not. Its not like he's Clay Matthews (who was a walk-on at USC). We're talking about a guy who was a total liability two years ago and a marginal SEC player last year.

And the fact we have 2 highly recruited 4-star LBs behind him makes it a bad look for the coaches. Dillon Bates and Daniel Bituli were top 150 players in the country that all the top programs were after. Its UNACCEPTABLE that a walk-on who isn't even good is ahead of them on the depth chart at this point in their careers. This is an indictment of Butch Jones and his staff. Its is not a compliment.

So are we 3/4 layers deep or are we not?
Do we have enough talent to win a National championship or do we not?

You do understand that we can all see the different thread you post in with your varying opinions right?

The bamboo has been watered all it can for now. It's time to make some punji sticks, smear 'em with feces, and stick 'em in some people's bellies.

Keep setting expectations this low and wonder why we havent been good in over 15 years.

Last I checked this is Tennessee. When did perpetual mediocrity guarantee job security? Butch got his pass last year because of the injuries. Its ATL or bust this year. Win the East and it shows he can still be a championship coach. Win only 9 games again and we know what he is. And that's a mediocre coach.

Mediocrity should NOT be the standard at Tennessee.

Fan expectations/record projections have little to nothing to do with the team's success. It's about the leadership of the program, primarily the University's support and commitment. For example, you can keep droning on about going 15-0 and winning national titles until the cows come home, but it ain't happening .....until the university administration gets on the same page with the Athletic department and provides the same type of support and commitment that the winningest programs in the country right now receive.

The more people who believe Tennessee is a top program, the more likely we are to succeed. We've got Tennessee "fans" on here predicting Georgia to win the east. Just goes to show how clueless peole are. We've got the most talent, the best QB situatuon, the best defense, and the best DC in the east. There is is no excuse not to go 11-1, or 10-2 with a bad break. Its not that complicated. But no, we will finish third at best in the east.

A few interesting things:

- CFA behind Kelly at RB (not Chandler)
- Palmer starting at WR
- Jumper starting at MLB (I guess not surprising, just disappointing no one else has separated himself there)
- Reginald McKenzie, Jr (!) is 6'3"? Didn't he come in at 6'0"?
- Moseley still starting at CB
- Sapp 3rd string behind Berry at LB

Just my thoughts... I see the "OR's" but it seems the cats listed first are first for a reason, and it's not alphabetical!

No, sir, I believe you are missing an "Or" between El Berry and Sapp.

On another note, am glad to see Bituli listed as another LB option and not only at MLB. Seems we could potentially see McD, Jumper and Bituli on field.

KMac has always been listed about that height; you might be thinking of Tuttle who was a bit shorter.

The best LT currently in the NFL (Tyron Smith) played RT his entire career in college. USC had Matt Kahlil (a mediocre NFL LT) playing LT ahead of Tyron Smith.

College teams don't always play the guys with the highest NFL ceiling at their best position. Drew Richmond has decent talent but Marcus Tatum is way more talented and has a higher pro ceiling.

Some people tend to take a more logical approach instead of blindly picking Tennessee to win every year.

How do we have the best QB situation? No QB on our roster has played any big time minutes.
The best defense? So we went from the worst defense in Vols history after losing the top players on d?

The best DC in the east? Didnt we have that last season too? How did that work out.

There was no excuse to go 11-/10-2 the last two season.....yet.....

So yeah, like you said, its not that complicated.

We have the talent to go 15-0. But it's on the coaches to play the best players. And right now we're not playing our best players at LB. Colton Jumper is not as good as Daniel Bituli. Playing inferior players like that might cost us games we should win. Look no further than 2015 when we started Colton Jumper ahead of a freshmen DKjr.

Tyron Smith is not the best LT in the NFL.
