Two conflicting messages from Butch's Presser

No, just a guy asking a fair question and getting a bunch of d-bag responses from the usual suspects.

It is a valid question pertaining to Dobbs, it's the other 4 QBs that could have benefited from an elite QB coach.

It's too important of a position to not have a guru in place. Even if the senior starter is a baller with only 1 obvious weakness.

If Dobbs could have been statistically better he would have had the greatest year of any QB in Vol history, including Peyton. Is that what you're getting at?

If you don't think Dobbs could have improved his accuracy and gotten some more out of the passing game with a few more catchable balls, then I can't help you.

It's about improving his passing incrementally. A little better accuracy and he probably bumps his passing yards about by 300-400 and eclipses 30 TD's passing for the season.

I am one of Dobbs' biggest fans on here probably but acknowledging he could have been a bit better throwing the ball with some better coaching isn't a slam on him.

Getting back on point about having a QB coach, it is the most important position on the field so it would stand to reason a dedicated QB coach could help in the future.

I don't know if Helfrich would be amazing as the OC, but I think it would at least show a willingness to think outside the box, make a "swing for the fences" type of hire and go full out next year to win big. Staying within the current staff shows me a conservative, fear of the unknown attitude that will result in the W/L columns looking pretty much the same. If we go with someone already on the staff, I will be depressed.

Why is everyone obsessed with getting a QB coach/developer? Dobbs had one of the best years ever at UT and the #1 dual threat QB in last year's class sure didn't seem to mind that we didn't have one.

You're joking about the above bold font, right?

Butch always contradicts himself because there never any substance to what he says. He's just a rambling, cliche spouting machine...and that's not meant as a compliment

He better get the best available or he will be shortening his life as the vols coach. To promote Azzani and Sheridan to QB coach would show the incoming AD he is more into loyalty than winning.

Personally think Dobbs could have improved his passing and been that much better with someone with experience working with him on fundamentals.

Dobbs showed improvement during his final season, but some of his throws that were just out of reach seemed like an issue with fundamentals. So, I agree with your opinion on that.

Love your moniker by the way. I see you're reasoning on Scott and Azzani, but I've looked at their Bios and neither have any experience as a QB coach. Scott coached just about everything else on the offense but QB. Azzani has been a passing game coordinator but I don't think that's exactly the same as QB coach. Who knows though, maybe one or both could end up being the greatest OC in our school's history. Still hope we get one that 's proven it somewhere else. Need a bigger name for recruiting IMNSHO.
If CBJ says toe OC job is a destiny job then Scott doesn't fit the bill. He wants to be a head coach and actively seeks one.

If Butch is considering an internal hire, it may be because he can't go outside without a real AD in place.

But Scott does seem a stretch for OC.
