Turning Against Pruitt

McDoodle is a potential prospect, but don't overlook Cletus McGillicuddy, the DC from the Happy Valley Barber School and Hair Care Supply Emporium (home of the Hellbenders)...he has tremendous upside as well.
I suspect Mike Hamilton’s, searches went something like this.
GBO!!

Stoops' trajectory is about the same as what Rich Brooks had. And he just got thumped by a team that we crushed. So I wouldn't call his program a paragon of stability. He is better than some that KY has had but he's never winning the SEC at KY.
Would you swap him for Pruitt? That’s the question. No kentucky probably won’t be winning sec but they are better than ut. He has done a good job. He will be getting a top job soon.

Tennessee‘s endowment is approximately 1.4 billion dollars. I do not know if all that has to go to areas other than sports, but Butch‘s payments are almost finished. Plus, we have donors who might help, because Tennessee football is important, and was, from the beginning.

Pruitt is not a Head Coach. His interest is only defense. If his staff could have covered for him, it’s hasn’t happened. I hope when he is replaced, we get a Head Coach whose expertise is the Quarterback position (still the most important position on the field), and the Offensive side of football.

I always backed Coach Fulmer, but it seemed as if every game was a nail biter, few blowouts. I’ve seen enough conservative football to last a lifetime. I hope we get a Head Coach who expects to win every game. There may be games where the expectations are not promising, but no one should say, we “should” lose a game. We Never “should” lose a game, not to anyone.

Mullen started at Florida when Pruitt started at Tennessee, but he acted like a Head Coach, when he got there. Pruitt‘s excuses for losing, began when he walked in the door. Florida got a real Head Coach, Tennessee did not. We can do better.

The obvious comparison is Mullen at Florida, and Pruitt at Tennessee. They began at these schools the same year, and Florida is one of our rivals. Before excuses, let’s look. The W-L record is very comparable before each was hired.

TN
2015 9-4 won Outback Bowl
2016 9-4 won Music City
2017 4-8
then, Pruitt hired
2018 5-7
2019 8-5 won Gator
2020 2-1

FL
2015 10-4 lost Citrus
2016 9-4 won Outback
2017 4-7
then, Mullen hired
2018 10-3 won Orange
2019 11-2 won Peach
2020 2-1

Florida hired a proven and successful, Offensively minded, Head Coach. Tennessee hired a defensive coordinator who had never been a Head Coach.

Mullen and Pruitt came to their respective schools with totally different mindsets toward the teams they inherited. Pruitt came in and basically said I have to totally replace these players with my own, before I can be expected to win. Mullen came in with the exact opposite approach, and embraced all his players on the roster. He made every effort to win over his players who had been recruited by the previous Coach.

They also treated the quarterback position (the most important position on the field), differently. Mullen prepared ALL his quarterbacks to be ready to go on the field and play at a high level at any time, if needed. Pruitt did not. Worse, he picked a quarterback and stuck with him, no matter how poorly he played in games.

So, for the future quarterbacks out there, which team looks more attractive? Which team has the better Head Coach? Which team will be more successful?

It’s that time again. Tennessee can do better.

The more “I hear”, the more I’m beginning to think that this staff has really gone all in on Salter and really didn’t want Bailey. How else can you explain the patience Pruitt is showing with the offensive staff? He fires a D-line coach, mid game and apparently took over the defensive play calling from Ansley, in the bama game. Yet he is ok with the offensive staff getting little to no results. I guess it’s safe to say we will have a new defensive staff next year. And I guess he is ok with waiting until Chaney gets “his guy” on campus before holding Chaney and Weinke to a higher standard. I’m beginning to see patterns in this program that have me questioning the future of the program...AGAIN!
GBO!!

I got laughed off the board when I called for Les Miles to be hired.
Same deal as basketball really. We can forget about competing for championships anytime soon. What we need is stability! A proven coach to right the ship, keep it from completely sinking to the bottom and set the stage for the next guy. Well, at least that’s what I thought about Barnes. I guess I was just a little bit off on the Barnes being a foundation laying coach for the next guy.
GBO!!

Give me a win/loss record that screams stability? I don’t even know what that means. Is 8-5 stability? 9-4?

Let me just stop you right there. The only reason top tier SEC programs aren't firing their coaches after 3 years is because their coaches are WINNING. This is a fake argument. Tell me what reason Bama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Florida or TAMU would have to fire their head coached?

Also, Florida fired 3 head coaches after 3 years (Zook, McElwain, Muschamp) and Bama did the same thing before Saban.

So please, know what the heck you are talking about first! EVERYBODY does this, not just mid-tier teams.

You might have had a good point until you brought Texas A&M into the argument. Jimbo is not winning, so you just helped prove my point. Thanks.

I’d take a consistent 8-9 wins, for 4-5 years. My point is that I thought Barnes was a good hire, because I thought he would give us stability, get us to the tourney every couple of years and recruit at a decent level, while developing kids into serviceable SEC players, all while getting the program ready for the next guy. We can’t survive another “up and comer” flame out and we’re not able to just cherry pick our coach at this point. We need a boring, no nonsense, proven commodity, who is respected in the coaching community, to prove that you can succeed at Tennessee. I just felt like Les Miles was that guy. But I guess that’s why I’m typing this while sitting in my backyard and not in an administrative office, over on the hill.
GBO!!

I'm sure there were plenty of people in the past that said Tennessee would never be a .500 team. I don't like Kentucky as much as the next Vol fan, but never say never.

It's not about who wants to come to Tennessee. It's about are you willing to pay the money to make Tennessee dominant again.
Alabama was a dumpster fire 🔥 before Saban arrived, he also went 6-6 his first year.
They paid Saban big bucks to make them a winner and he has.
One other thing, someone correct if I'm wrong, but didn't/doesn't Saban's deal also specify that HE runs the show, meaning no interference from 'well meaning boosters', etc...

I would not swap for Mark Stoops for Pruitt. His one good season he was fortunate to notch some early season wins against guys in their first seasons with new programs, both of whom beat him the following year. Brooks had more impressive wins at KY and his teams were fun to watch.

I'm certain.

I'll add that it has a lot to do with the fact that nobody but Bear Bryant has ever won a conference championship on the field at Kentucky and that happened once 70 years ago.

Remember, we just did a coaching search and there wasn't a lot of knockdown options. Some will say Leach, but look at Miss St! Who out there is better and really wants to come to Tennessee to be Head Football Coach?

and please dont give me schiano.....
All these people so ready to fire Pruitt, if y'all want to pony up the dough for the buyout go for it otherwise STOP!!!

I am sure there is a high level D4 coach that might give us a look.

Quarterback. Quarterback. Quarterback. That's really all we need.
This team needs someone at the QB position to WAKE UP....flip the switch mentally and turn the light bulb on. Until we have a fighter...leader...warrior at the QB position we will never take the “next step” in moving in the right direction.
Rolling JG out there is killing this team’s moxie. He is the ultimate buzz kill. He’s proven one thing repeatedly to his teammates...that he is going to try his best which is 3rd string back up level at most Power 5 schools.
All the hard work they put in gets undone by ONE guy...the guy that is supposed to be motivating the rest of the offense to get it done!
Maybe now that the lambs have lead to slaughter against Bama...Pruitt will finally bench JG. He’s had enough opportunities to get it done. We all know JG can’t. Rather lose with a young energetic player FIGHTING than a mental case sulking just hoping to not turn the ball over managing solid 3 in outs.
I’m just saying.

Is that you Jack?

I would recommend NOT doing that. Will be a long couple years if you hate the man. I have so much hate in me already from these lying Socialists trying to hijack our country that I have to pray for forgiveness. Dont need anyone else to hate lol
