Tuesday Practice Thread: UTEP week

Phil needs to be in his office doing his job as Athletic Director, not out at football practice every day. I'm sure there are other things that need attention other than football.

Many of you will disagree because football is king (it is), and have blinders on blocking out everything else. However some of us are alum that want UT to perform well in every sport with a competent administration to handle it.

I'm worried about the athletic department under Fulmer, and its why I didn't want him hired in the first place over a guy like Blackburn who loved UT but also knew administration and how to handle it.

Well, we have a small sample size right now, but we have seen:

Pros:
1. Hiring a proven winner as head FB coach
2. Expanding funds available for the FB staff and I believe additional analyst and off-field support positions
3. Getting Barnes a raise and wxtension

Cons:
1. Warwick extension

What else is there in the Pro/Con to support or deny his ability as AD?

yeah ask for ideas and guidance. Doubt you have her sit down at your computer and take over. coach meetings, watching tape/evals all that makes sense. Out there pulling aside players to give advice? hard to go in a single direction if you have multiple people reading different maps.

I believe I gave a example that can be beneficial, and that I hope this is case.

We don't have either Pros or Cons right now my man.

1) Hiring Pruitt is not a pro yet, no one knows until the coming years. Its not a con because its not Schiano or Dooley 2.0 but you can't say its a great hire just yet.
2) I agree
3) Anyone with a brain with working neurons would give Barnes a raise and extension

Warwick is a canary that he may just be going through the motions with the other programs. Listen the jury is still out on the guy but my god man don't show up to practice dressed like a coach and coaching, you hire those guys!!

Worley threw more TD passes than JG.... Lol... I'm wishing JG all the success but need him to start throwing TDs. 1 TD in 2 games is unacceptable.

Edit: Chryst has only thrown 3 passes and has 1 TD....
It was a wide open pass against ETSU....

Who hurt you?

There's decidedly not many people walking the shoe leather of this planet part of a Vols team rocking a National Championship ring with a Power T on it, has a resume which includes being a HOF football coach, with stellar experience as a OL coach and former player as well. If the idea from Pruitt is to utilize that experience in some way to gain an edge for this crop of Vols, the problem is???

Great description !

Nah I'm not concerned about it. It is a non issue, outside of this brief conversation. But it doesn't look good when your AD has to suit up and come help coach. It just doesn't. These men are paid millions to do a job. Administrators having to come help looks silly.

That ^ is funny ! IF it were Dave Hart or the last guy AD helping out the OL -- now THAT would look silly (but for CPF -- that's looks great).

Anyone -- didn't the Football Coaches use to live in apts in Neyland / under the bleachers? I like the thought of that, too -- right there, all the time !

I've worked in a lot of different career fields from military to ministry and one thing always held true. If someone was brought in from outside, then someone else wasn't doing their job. It's simple philosophy.

we have 1 more week before Floriduh to get this O-Line fixed...
I do not care how it gets done as long as it gets done...
maybe the coaches asked PF if he would give some pointers to the O-Line..

Maybe Friend already has them fixed for FL and PF is there getting them fixed for Bama !!

Is Phil really a "former" Hall of Fame coach? Is there an expiry on those titles? Maybe they have to relinquish a parking space or something?

from the way I read the quotes he always has a practice outline. and as the boss he doesn't have to steal anything. still doubt it was Pruitt's idea.
that's certainly your prerogative..... you can doubt JP had him on the field...and I can doubt you know what the he## you are talking about. see how easy that is.

You make some assumptions in that last statement. You don't think Fulmer was asked to come assist with the OL? No way he comes out there unless he is asked by Pruitt. Also, Pruitt is absolutely a pro compared to the slick sales guy we had previously who was hired by our admin who have been getting hires and fires wrong for better than one decade and almost two. Will he make some inexperience mistakes? You bet he will, but at least he has a good resource to lean upon which is probably what Pruitt has done in this scenario. Actually, asking your superior for assistance on projects is a great way to build camaraderie. We need that now as it is that team versus the world and even our fans have turned on them. Man, I feel bad for you having to endure some really bad athletics in your tenure on the hill.

Maybe CJP wants Fulmer to see what he has to work with on the OL. Don't believe Fulmer would be out there without Pruit's okay or request. Was it only Tuesday? Was he out there today?

I hope he was invited to help coach but in this situation I really don't think it's a good idea to let the camel get his nose in the tent.
I'm sure coach Pruitt doesn't mind Fulmer watching practice and offering pointers on the O-Line, the man knows the offensive line. GBO!!!!

Anybody even trying to insinuate that Fulmer is somehow trying to butt in where he isn't wanted is full of it. Fulmer has been to all practices and has been and will continue to be welcome.

Your thesis doesn't match your body... As my old English teacher in middle school would say.

Okay? JG had wide open passes as well that didn't score. What's your point?

My point is they need to finish.
My point is made one wide open throw and now he's Dan Marino. JG played fine. When you have 2 equals or close to equals you go with the guy who is going to be around for more than one season. 75% of this board could probably make that throw to Murphy.

You must not see me post? I've stated multiple times I just want JG to improve. All he has to learn how to do is to put the ball where his receivers can finish and his receivers need to learn to finish anyways.

I haven't said that Chryst should play over JG. I also have made no implications of anyone being like "Dan Marino" so..... Yup.

Yea, I guess if Phil was out there offering unwanted advice/direction. I don't believe for a second that's the case. If he's been asked to play this role, I can't imagine they are going in different directions. I mean, I know we are a chit show, but come on.
still yet to see/read anything saying he was asked to be there. and hard to imagine Phil has the same things to say as Friend unless he has been sitting in the O line room, going to coach meetings etc etc. quote said he was giving individual advice, not addressing the whole unit.
