Tuesday Practice Thread: UTEP week

JJ's body language has me concerned. He doesnt look like a guy "into" being here. I dont have a good feeling about him. I just dont think he'll be here long enough to make an impact.

I thought JJ was no. 1. Where was he on the video?

Yeah all of 3 passes, great sample size.. When are u Chryst guys going to accept hes the backup??

3 for 3 and has just as many TDs as JG.... Again not saying he is better but, those 3 passes did look good. Anyways. Hope JG just improves and him and the receivers learn to finish.

The most interesting and notable note from Tuesday was Phillip Fulmer’s presence on the field. The former Hall of Fame coach has been at every practice this fall, but today, Fulmer wasn’t in khakis and a jacket but full sweats with a practice outline in his hand. He watched the QBs, WRs and TEs, but mostly observed the offensive line, offering tips to Trey Smith, K’Rojhn Calbert, Drew Richmond and Riley Locklear, among others.
Uh oh.

Nah I'm not concerned about it. It is a non issue, outside of this brief conversation. But it doesn't look good when your AD has to suit up and come help coach. It just doesn't. These men are paid millions to do a job. Administrators having to come help looks silly.

An administrator who is a Hall of Fame coach..... Coming in to act as an assistant and share wisdom is not silly. It's brilliant. All hands on deck.

I think it is what it is and the biggest problem with it is going to be within the fan base.

ItI will say that while Im all for anything that can help us get better, I do wish our new coach didn't have to ask our Athletic Director for help with his O line.

But again, whatever, I hope it makes an immediate positive difference.
I don't think he HAS to but if you have another expert on the subject standing right there anyway..

A normal offensive line coach only has two really work with one or two new starters each year. Our OL coach is trying to fix 7 guys at once. I'm sure he doesn't mind the help.

Got it the first time. :)

Like I said, I don't think its an issue, what I posted was my only thought on it.

I didn't really think about how many he's trying to fix until a couple of days ago.
I was thinking then how abnormal it is and that we needed GA who specialized in offensive line. Didn't even think about Fulmer, haha.

Yeah.. I'm sure Phil stole that practice outline he was holding..... SMH
from the way I read the quotes he always has a practice outline. and as the boss he doesn't have to steal anything. still doubt it was Pruitt's idea.

My current boss had my job before me and there are times that I find myself scratching my head to get better and need some guidance. I always go to her, because I trust that she may see something I don’t see to help. This may be the case hopefully. Sometimes, you need someone else’s perspective outside of the job that has been there to get a clearer picture.
yeah ask for ideas and guidance. Doubt you have her sit down at your computer and take over. coach meetings, watching tape/evals all that makes sense. Out there pulling aside players to give advice? hard to go in a single direction if you have multiple people reading different maps.

we have 1 more week before Floriduh to get this O-Line fixed...
I do not care how it gets done as long as it gets done...
maybe the coaches asked PF if he would give some pointers to the O-Line..

So if Peyton was an administrator, or anywhere on campus at all, you wouldn't be okay with him helping the QB's? You use the assets you have, and if anyone knows how to build/coach/instruct an absolutely bulldozing offensive line, it's Fulmer.

Any ego issues, let them sort it out. I know they are aware of a potential conflict of interest, and I'm sure that is monitored and checked by someone else. Fulmer is not going to be allowed free reign to do whatever he wants. This is nothing but a good thing, in my opinion. It's like a extra coach. Who else in the country has someone else that is willing to do this in the AD role?

Yea, I guess if Phil was out there offering unwanted advice/direction. I don't believe for a second that's the case. If he's been asked to play this role, I can't imagine they are going in different directions. I mean, I know we are a chit show, but come on.

I've always been a supporter of Fulmer, I don't think he should have been fired, however from a leadership standpoint I don't like him being a helicopter AD. It's not his role to be out there every day and he dang sure shouldn't be in sweats. It could work only if Pruitt and Fulmer's personalities are perfectly compatible, to quote Woody Harelson's character from Solo, there are a lot of ways it can go wrong and only one way it can go right.

Phil needs to be in his office doing his job as Athletic Director, not out at football practice every day. I'm sure there are other things that need attention other than football.

Many of you will disagree because football is king (it is), and have blinders on blocking out everything else. However some of us are alum that want UT to perform well in every sport with a competent administration to handle it.

I'm worried about the athletic department under Fulmer, and its why I didn't want him hired in the first place over a guy like Blackburn who loved UT but also knew administration and how to handle it.

Not really, no. If he was an admin, he needs to be doing that job.

Of course Phil is going to take a greater interest in the football program than other sports. It's only natural and I'd do the same thing if I was him. I'm not at practice so I don't know exactly what he's doing, but he was there dressed as a coach with an outline of practice in his hand. The dude is managing the entire athletic department; let the head coach he hired coach the football team.

Maybe, Pruitt invited him to help.

Fulmer was brought in to fix football. Period. AD is his title sure, but the other programs are either excelling or at least treading water. UT football is bleeding out on the operating table and needs a steady-handed surgeon.

Do you think Fulmer wants his legacy to be the saviour of UT football, or the meddling narcissist that undermined his own hire and buried the program for good?

LOL! Are you serious? I didn't know his number until someone told me and number 40 looks like the rest of them. Tired. What a reach.
