Trying to Confirm

What Tennessee needs is a coach that has proven ability to coach and RECRUIT. We have to have both or we are wasting the schools money. There are too many proven coaches and recruiters in the SEC. We have not had a five star running back sense BB and he packed his bags and went home. It took South Carolina a while but good coaching and good recruiting is what this team is lacking.

Not trying to be the smartaleck but isnt that what all schools want and need in their football coach? Now I do understand your point about UT. Our situation is doubly hard when it comes to recruiting...we all know those issues and have discussed them extensively...but those qualilites in a head coach are needed at Ohio State, Norte Dame etc...maybe not the recruiting as much at say a Florida because of being overrun with quality players in your backyard....but we always have needed a strong recruiter...Now to make a few folks mad as the dickens...We had one in Fulmer...knows the game, obviously can coach and was one of the best recruiters of his time....

Dooley will get another year. I understand the frustration, but I think Hart gives him another year.

And in the mean time Auburn, Arkansas and Kentucky would have gotten the jump start on available coaches by their hiring ahead of us. Is there someone out there that truly believes Dooley can right this ship? Seriously? I can see it now. After NSD we'll get all lathered up over a recruiting class ranked between 15 - 25. Spring practice will roll in and we'll get excited because of the things coming out practice, summer rolls in and the count down to the first game in Sept begins. We beat up on our first two opponents and it's bring on the Gators. We travel to Gainesville and reality check sets in. We're still not as good as we thought. Same song 4th verse folks.

Careful, Oregon is game #2 next year. We will be blown out long before the Gators come calling if Dools is still running things.

Been a rumor for a while. They have the resources and budget to throw crazy money at him and he is about the closest to a sure thing hire as you can get. There were rumors they would offer something like 10 years and 70 mil.

From what I heard they had that deal worked out when they placed in the championship. That why muschamp left heard this before signing day that year.

Thanks Leb, didn't have the sched in front of me. I'd love for Dooley to get this thing turned around, but typically you see progress in teams under a staff for this amount of time. Unless he wins the next 2 games how can we say this team has gotten better even if they go undefeated in November?

Nah, he's smart enough to make it work somewhere... If he had a defense that knew the system and a 5* corner or two he would be doing it here.

He didn't get it done in a WAC conf. or the SEC , maybe sunbelt ? You say all he needed was a 5* corner or two and he would be doing it here ? If he can't get any 5* corner here, what makes you think he going to get one some place else? You can say that's the problem all you want but the fact is, the current players we have now are not being coached. It's showing every Saturday . It's not a lack of talent , its a lack of coaching.

Random question...

If a coach gets fired mid-season and you let an assistant finish out the season as the coach. Could you hire the head coach of the future and let him start recruiting?

I'm guessing the obvious answer is no. lol

Meyer did it a OSU. Granted it was a little bit later in the season but he for sure was recruiting and at the bowl game.

I have supported Dooley throughout last year, but the Florida game ( WHO IS WAY OVERRATED!!!!) was my breaking point and MSU game was the straw that broke the camels back!!! I dont care if we get lucky and beat Bama he should be gone...casue all it will be is like what my grandfather always said ..." Even a Blind Hog can find an acorn everyonce in awhile... and honestly that is all Dooley is a bottom teir coach!!! Heck La Tech without him was Ranked till last week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How bout .......PETE CARROLL!!!!

I have heard the SEC is going to a nine game schedule next year and Oregon will be removed from the schedule.

Also, if we are competitive in the next two games and play hard for 4 quarters then win out the other four games, we will be 7-5. If we win a bowl, we would then be 8-5. The last two years top ranked teams have blown us out. We also seemed to lay down and quit when we got hit by adversity. We did not quit when down against Georgia or MSU. So, at this point, we have improved over the last couple of years to this year.

Also, what if we blow out the Cats and the Dorks? Regardless, it would show we are making progress.

After the first half of MSU game, I was furious. I still have my doubts about CDD. But, no way you could not see where there is improvement if that happens.

Has that happened yet? Heck no! But, let the season play out and see if it does. With that said, if you can get Gruden get him. But, if it is someone like Kirby Smart ect........., no need to go there yet.

My feelings exactly. I think if Dooley can go 8-5 or better he should stay. 7-6 is a maybe fire depending on who's available to take his place. If he wins 6 or fewer that of course is a losing season and he needs to go. I like the guy personally and respect him for what he has tried to do at Tennessee, but SEC football is very demanding and so are its fans. At least let him finish the season before any firing takes place. We need some stability for the team this season to have any hope of finishing strong.

I think everyone is giving Hart to much credit.... Sure he will have a say in the matter, but the booster will have the final decision as they will be on the hook for the cash...

I do have a simple question for the Dool-Aid drinkers though... How long do you think it will take CDD to get to .500 against ranked teams if he does stay (be honest)? Not bashing just asking as he will be coaching against ranked teams every year in this league....

If he beat 4 ranked teams a year, it would take him 5 years to make .500. Thats without any loses to ranked teams over that period

i have been.on the Dooley train from day 1.
The 1st half of the Miss St game was bad, very bad. I think if TN can hire Gruden, they need to act fast. If he is ready to get back in coaching next year will be to late.

if TN has to hire a second tier coach I rather have Dooley for another year. It needs to be a splash hire or stay with what we have.

Those numbers are being nice. If Dooley finishes 5-8 he'd be lucky.

and your calling that progress ? beating 2 teams thats as bad as us ? you really dont expect much do you ?

I don't troll.

It's possible that some of this information is premature, but it was coming out regardless.

so instead of letting it get out of control, I thought I would come and share some insight to keep the speculation from going completely out of control.

I am sure more will come our later this week, but it won't come from me - this is as far as I want to take it for now.

Thanks SBV for what you are able to share, it is appreciated.
