Trying to Confirm

Gruden would be a disaster. Not sure why all these posts seem to want him. Stupid really.

What are you basing this on?

I could just as easily say it's stupid that you believe it would be a disaster.

Don't think we could land him but thinking a coach that's won a Super Bowl would be a disaster with nothing to base it on... does not compute.

I was. Like the guy.

Not getting it done

Time to switch gears

I know what you mean. I was at the game last night and left frustrated with what I saw in terms of coaching. Today I posted mt first negative comment about Dooley. I have defended him up till this point. Even defending his record by making excuses for him and giving him the benefit if the doubt.

I just can't do that any more. I don't have a leg to stand on. We have plenty of talent to pull out some wins against an SEC team if we were coached better. Last night I saw that we were bigger and stronger in a lot of key areas but State was able to follow their game plan to a t and we didn't do anything about it. We got out coached.

I like Dooley but I like to win more. It is time. Nothing personal. It's just business.

Does anyone remember the negative publicity UT got for firing Major's mid season?
Does anyone remember the negative publicity and poor performance from UT when Fulmer was fired during the season (we lost to wyoming)?

Whether it is right or wrong, it would be horrible publicity to do it now. I mean there are shots of the guy in an effing wheelchair. Do you know how cold that would seem to the media? They would eat that stuff up and we would look TERRIBLE. You couldn't get ESPN to shut up about it, other coaches would tell every recruit in the nation not to go to UT because they fire their coach who just had emergency surgery, and now they have done it twice. They would say, UT has no loyalty to anyone, so you don't need to send your son or daughter there. I am telling you, there is no way.

Do you guys remember the problem with Tubberville being back stabbed at Auburn? Same deal here. You want Hart to have a guy lined up, but unless that is done behind the back of the current coach, it doesn't happen. IF it is done behind the back of the coach, it makes us (again) look like total a$%hats.

Couple that with the allegations that Pat was forced out and you are talking about being black listed in the coaching and media ranks for years. This is not an easy situation, it isn't just about a coach it is about the legacy of a whole University. In this situation, it is far better to lose a few games and make corrections after showing that you have exhausted all opportunity than to act hastily and to enter an unrecoverable tail spin.

Simmer down, the season will play out and we will either be much better or looking for a new coach. It is a win-win.

How did it work out for the guys who followed Majors and Tubberville? I mean, they were so hampered recruiting with all that negative publicity, right?

What the hell. Wow. This guy won a superbowl and took another team to one and is one of the most known and respected people in all of football. He would be a rockstar hire. Imagine him sitting in the living room of a recruit...I literally believe we'd land the no.1 ranked class in America every year. Hiring gruden would be our equivalent of bama getting Saban. Only gruden was successful in the nfl

Although i have changed my stance on dooley, i dont think they fire him mid season. If he loses to bama and USC. then maybe at the end of the year. If we lose to Mizz and vandy too, then i think he is definately out by Jan. I just cant see him being fired before the end unless it is a huge hire. Not only is firing him mid season gonna look bad but it will kill recruiting for this year and make it look like our decision makers gave up on a manageable season. Which is still what we have if we some how manage to win some games we aren't suppose too. So that being said.... let the season play out and dooley will be gone by the time the ball drops on 2013.

Well, if I am Hart, I am making calls and having everything in place to fire Dooley and then announce his replacement in the same week so to avoid losing players and recruits. I tell Dooley pending an upset over Bama or SC to show he can beat a ranked opponent, that he is done after the Kentucky game. I would have Gruden or whoever ready to start recruiting the next day. If Tennessee goes to a bowl, let Sal coach that game. Enough is enough. I wanted Dooley to succeed but he will not. No more youth and inexperience as an excuse. This team is poorly coached and lacks leadership both on the field and on the sideline. I hoped Bray would step up his game but that hasn't happened either. Tennessee needs change and a top tier coach to bring the program back to the national prominence. If Muschamp and Mullen can do it, there is no excuse for Dooley.

But but but.....the dumpster fire.

If all these other jobs open up we can't afford to wait until January. It'll be slim pickings unless by some chance Gruden really would want to come here and would turn down every other offer. If not during the season, right after the UK game. Can't wait until the new year.

The man was subpar in the NFL except the ONE year he won a Super Bowl. He has never been a head coach at the college level. If you literally believe we would pull in the best recruiting class every year, you sir have absolutely no common sense. Also just because he was graduate assistant at UT back in the 80's does not mean he will automatically turn UT around. With the logic of most the people on here, if you worked concessions at UT then you are qualified to coach.

And Saban was actually successful in college.. Two totally diff games..

It's not happening with Gruden anyways..

Whose to say Ark, Aub, Tex, & maybe another school is lying low til the end of the season? They probably are in silent negotiations now with someone if at all possible. I say go for it now & don't be left picking over the leftovers.
