Truth about Nico

All of this has been discussed ad nauseam, but it’s still true. They screwed themselves out of a LOT of money being egotistical and greedy. They screwed themselves out of being legendary with the fanbase. He still has a chance to make a lot of money if he can get drafted.

But he has zero shot to be held in the kind of legendary light that he would have been had he won 10+ more games and won UT’s first playoff game ever. We still talk about Casey and Heath Tee and Peyton like they were invincible. Imagine if Nico had won 12, 13, or more games this season. Where would he rank?!?!?

I will answer that one for everyone. He would have never paid for another thing in Knoxville or a large portion of the state of Tennessee. Heck they may have even put his face on the back of the scoreboard.
Nice name btw

That won't mater at all. He's cast forever as a self-centered POS unless he becomes a top NFL QB, but even that may not salvage his reputation. Hope he starts somewhere in the NFL and his team plays the Titans. It will be a sellout with 70,000 pi$$ed-off fans loudly booing him. I would pay the price of a ticket to see that!
Meh, I honestly don’t think the kid even loves the game. I think he just plays for the money and most of that money isn’t going to him.

Maybe, maybe not. Still likely to get drafted if he’s even halfway decent at UCLA this year.
I’m not sure about that at all. He was at best a mediocre QB in the conference. He would have to improve imo to be drafted. Definitely will get a chance as a UDFA if he doesn’t get drafted but he’s hurt himself a lot. He could have stayed and got drafted if he had a good year or could’ve left Tennessee after the season and had better choices of where he landed. He landed at UCLA with an inferior Oline and talent around him and an inferior head coach.

If Meterz (and Peterman) can get drafted, so can Nico

NFL relies heavily on "measurables". He has that in spades. If they drafted Levis, Richardson and Milton, he whose name shall no longer be uttered will get drafted, probably by round 4.

I heard it from my 3rd cousin twice removed who is close to the program, that Gruden is DEFINITELY coming, he's bringing Kiffin back, and Nico is returning as well!!
BOOK IT!!

Wow, that would be a disaster worth seeing. Entertainment central. I heard that Pruitt will come back to coach the defense as well.

Nico will have to stand on his own merit going forward. His franchise tag is removed and we will see how he fares without his mentor and guardian - Coach Heupel - nursing him along. It will be very interesting to see how his exit from Tennessee impacts his perception by NFL teams. Of course if he blossoms into a true star - he will have earned it on his own and likewise if he flops it is on his shoulders. Josh will invest much effort into Joey and Jake to shove the disappointing and wretched iamaleava experience into the garbage bin.

I'm stuck here too. Just saying. My living room is 19.2 miles (as the war eagle flies) to the Tennessee state line. I feel my IQ go up when I cross that line,
never figgurred how i wound up in northport either. Guess its better than being among the elite to our south.

huntspatch was OK. I lived on the Grissom side decades ago

Don’t listen to what people say. Watch what they do.

Nico committed to Tennessee in Feb 2022, I believe, when 1) the roster was a disaster 2) Tennessee was potentially facing post season bans but the Vols offered them the biggest NIL payment.

Tell me again, Mr. Iamaleavin, it wasn’t about the money.

What is interesting is that I think Nico could be successful in the right spot but UCLA isn't that spot. He needed to go to a team that didn't have very stout defenses. UCLA is going to be playing a very difficult schedule (moreso than even Tennessee IMO) without the talent of Tennessee.

It will be interesting to see if whomever starts for UT this year at quarterback ends up posting better numbers against SEC opponents than Nico did. His numbers against SEC opponents, Vandy notwithstanding, were pedestrian at best.

I think about a guy like Squirrel White. Bolts to FSU his senior year. Does our fanbase still embrace him? I dont know. He was here 3 years and had time to make contacts, but has he burned bridges for leaving us for another program?
I wonder if Squirrel was being passed up by newcomers and/or told he would be better off somehwere else.

Maybe Nico did Josh a solid. Imagine if Nico stuck around and stunk up the place next season?
Honestly after watching him against the best teams on our scheudle last year, I think the chances of that happening were greater than him putting on a Heisman campaign. JMO of course. He just was not a fit for this offense nor was he ready for the big stage. And it's not to say he couldn't become a better QB in a different system, he has all the physical tools. But for some the light just never comes on. We've seen it before in Big Orange country for sure.
