Watched episode 1 of the new season last night. So far, seems much better than last year. Looks like there will be some interesting story lines. Tera as a mindless vamp should be interesting.

on the originality question - I think the Game of Thrones work is pretty original; particularly in it's scope, it's approach of not having the good guys win and the 3rd party narrative structured in chapters around individual characters.

There was something I read that showed that basically every plot that occurs in all writing today shares the same plot as one of four ancient literary masterpieces. I wish I could remember which 4 they are other than the Odyssey.
