Hey volwarrior33 I have an idea for you, if you have something to post on Coach Calhoun then why don't you just post it in one of his threads instead of creating a new thread everytime. OK!

Hate him or....well we all hate him, but Kiffin excited recruits because of who he was and his staff around him. I love the Vols with all my heart, but I would chose to play for Urban over Calhoun because of the possibility of winning a title. Not to play for some "nobody."

Urban had no national champs before he came to UF, he was not well known, and many thought he was bringing a radical offense to the SEC that would never work. He worked his way up to get the recruits that he is getting now.

As is so typical of many posts regarding any potential new Head Football Coach, many Vol fans are reacting to Calhoun spastically and with naivete. As a graduate of The Air Force Academy, Calhoun will bring integrity and character back to the Vol Football program, which we sorely lost under Kiffin. Additionally, Calhouns resume includes a stint as an NFL Offensive Coordinator. I am positive he did not run the option in the NFL. He is respected as an offensive genuis and will run a pro style offense at UT. Please evaluate Calhoun's experience, accomplishments and experience before you jump to unfounded conclusions. If Calhoun is the man, we all must be united in supporting him and not casting stones.

In your opinion, perhaps, but I would much rather have Kippy than Calhoun. We are not a triple option team, and we are not a spread offense team -- those are not the attributes of our current athletes. The players now on campus and especially our recruiting class are geared toward a pro-style offense.

Kippy is a proven recruiter, and a much respected coach at both the college (AT UT) and in the NFL -- exactly the type of coach we should be looking for.

I will be very, very disappointed if we select Calhoun. I would much rather see us put off naming a coach for the moment and sacrifice this class of recruits in order to wait for a more favorable time to get a head coach, if that is what is necessary, but I cannot imagine why we do not give Kippy a chance.

I really hope Calhoun is not it. I cannot see him as the face of UT football.

Unless, of course, you were a college basketball fan. If you were, you certainly knew Bruce Pearl.

Pearl was among the hottest names in the college basketball world when he was hired. He'd just led Wisconsin-Milwaukee to upset wins in the NCAA Tourney against Alabama and Boston College. He'd had success with lesser talent at every level.

Troy Calhoun is not a sought-after commodity. He has found MILD success wherever he has coached.

And in this era, where recruiting is paramount, he has shown little to no capacity to handle what it takes to succeed in the SEC - getting superior athletes to come to his school.

These are the dark days for UT football.

I tried to bring a little humor to the board earlier by starting a new thread. Not everyone thought I was as funny as I did. For that reason, I am self reporting and imposing a 2 day suspension upon myself starting threads. (I make no rash promises on posting though.) Back to the point at hand though. Everybody thought Gene Chizik was a bad hire last year (including auburn fans). Remeber all the booing.Now how do they feel about the hire. He did not have a top ranked class last year and look where their recruiting class is headed this year!

If Troy Calhoun is hired, it won't be a panic hire. Hamilton had a pretty thorough search a year ago, and Calhoun came up number 2. That is not a panic hire. My guess is Muschamp jumped him this time because of Mack Brown's new extension.

apples and oranges. This is a hiring decision, not a matter of needing to get rid of a guy who is going to take some of his toys with him when he leaves. Anyone with a brain knows that UTK has access through alumni and former coaches to put together a patchwork of experienced guys who can serve as caretakers until they get someone with the gravitasse befitting the program. I have nothing against TC. This is more a case of "it's not you, it's me". The UT Vols that I know do not hire the Air Force coach. It's elitist and smug, I know. But it's a fact and if this guy is hired then the prestige of the program will instantly go down a notch or two.

Meyer walked into a loaded roster that with his coaching ability got him instant credibility and with Miami and FSU down the instate talent flooded to Florida making him a genious.

The situation at Tennessee...not so much. We do have playing time to offer across the roster.
