Troy Calhoun (merged)

You do for the University out in Nevada? What do you do? IP addresses never lie.

Ahhhhh you genius Mod......Im running an IP filter...my family lives in Nevada, so I picked their zip code for my "home internet" connection. Nice try bucko.

I dont think that this looks like a home run right now but in a couple of years it sure will!
IT WILL BE GREAT TO HAVE A HONEST COACH AGAIN!

You posted that he was hired a mere hour ago?? Please stop posting! When you get that urge, just stop and dont post.

:boxing2:

At this point I just want a coach so we know who we have in the box and on the field! :dunno:

I think he's the best we have left. I'll take Calhoun over Cut right now.

Who else are we going to hire? There is NO ONE else interested. No Muschamp, no Patterson, no Peterson, etc...

This guy may seem boring, but he'll be a winner.

I'm in favor for either him or Kippy, but Kippy has zero experience as a HC at any level (save for the XFL), so I favor Calhoun.

He's not my first choice, or 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th--but he'll do, and I'm not too terribly upset.

What about Kyle Whittingham?

My reaction to Calhoun...there goes big time recruits.

Put yourself in the mind of a 17 year old, 5 star recruit that isn't an orange-blooded Vol. Are you really going to choose to play for Troy Calhoun or Urban Meyer who has won 2 National Titles? Or Saban who has 2 National Titles?

I'm not saying we have to get a coach that has already won a national title, I'm realistic. Getting that type of coach is impossible. But I'd like to at least have a coach that will excite recruits. Hate him or....well we all hate him, but Kiffin excited recruits because of who he was and his staff around him. I love the Vols with all my heart, but I would chose to play for Urban over Calhoun because of the possibility of winning a title. Not to play for some "nobody."

Pearl was a nobody in most people's minds. I remember even the media was saying how he stumbled out of the gate really badly. It did not look good at first. However, he knew what he was doing, and just did his job.

I do not expect a great reaction, no matter who we hire. The question is: can the coach not read headlines and message boards, and go do the job?

My biggest concern is who will be the assistants, and in the same way, what will be the recruiting focus, and can the assistants coach them up.

What kind of chance are you talking about? You wanna give him a pass on this year and let him start from scratch with the class of 2011? Or since so many of the elite prospects for the 2011 class are already comitted and kids will want to see what his teams do on the field should we just give him a pass until the 2012 class?

If you believe what some of the prospects and EEs are saying, hiring TC is going to cost the program guys who are ready and willing to come here. The second Hambone announces this guy it IS going to hurt recruiting NOW. People understand that UTK got hosed. They will not hold it against us nearly so much for going into the bunker and letting one of our own take the helm short term (or maybe long term if he surprises us). What will hurt UTK is if they are percieved as making an unnecessary, panic hire and hiring the Air Force coach will give that perception. Some of you are obviously already sold. Others are probably just trying to be positive and get out in front of what you expect to happen. I'm just here to say that we have no idea what the upside on this guy is. Maybe he's the next Saban. What we do know is the downside. Kids will leave school and decommit if TC is hired. I'll take a bird in the hand right now, thanks.

People said that about Buzz, do not fire him, we will lose recruits.

The recruits are GOING NO WHERE! IF he is hired he will talk to them and reassure them that the Flexbone will not be used here, and that he is here to put UT back on the MAP! Calhoun seems like no matter where he goes, he does VERY GOOD things! Great Coaches adapt to their players abilities, and he did that at AFA, with the wishbone But he has been very successful in other offensive styles! He will be a CLASS act, and I think with this hire Hamilton is giving him unlimited resources to get the best of the best as far as recruiters and Coordinaters, I definatly think Kippy and Thompson stay in place!

HOnestly. This is ridiculous. Now they are saying Calhoun is not coming. What we don't know is if he was even offered. ESPN put our short list together, but that doesn't mean that we've even talked to any of these guys. I think we did try to get Muschamp, but I think all of the rest is just speculation by a bunch of people. Hamilton is probably talking to someone that isn't even being mentioned. If you think about it, Kiffin wasn't mentioned in conjunction with the TN job last year, with the exception of a few people on this board, until he was hired.

Wait. Every time somebody says "Stoops" it's assumed it is Bob Stoops. However, could it be Mike?

Umm NO, I shall now change your name to "LameOracle"

So is it safe to say that the sports animal guys don't know crap either?
