Trophy ceremony was dumb

Was it silly? Yes
Did the team have anything to do with the awards and ceremony given to them by the people who set it up? No
Do other early season one-off games have awards ceremonies too? Yes

Get over it. I don't understand why anyone would ***** about it. Let them enjoy playing in and winning a spectacle game. I sure bet the VT guys wouldn't mind being the ones on that stage.

I don't know, but I don't think that the two would be comparable:

Winning division over the course of a season

vs.

Winning a particular game

It had to be over-the-top and audacious...it was a football game at a NASCAR track. The only thing missing was a Carl Edwards backflip and the Sprint Cup hotties. It was fun and funny at the same time.

To be fair, the people in my section who were still in the stands during the ceremony all had looks of bemusement and confusion. It's not like Tennessee fans are running around talking about how awesome the ceremony was.

I understand creating a trophy for the game and presenting it to the head coach after the win. What was ridiculous was the ceremony, the t-shirts saying "Champions," and the rings.

I stayed, I loved it and if that sparks something in them that gives them a glimpse into what they could be celebrating in Atlanta or Tampa Im good with it. Sometimes a mental victory is all it takes. So who cares they are 19, 20,? Let them enjoy it.

It's my understanding that both teams got the rings. I got no problem with all participants getting a momento of this once in a who knows how long, if ever again, event.

I don't have a problem with rings. Each individual gets to commemorate being part of the largest college football game in history. I see the rings as subtle. The trophy, on the other hand, is ridiculously gaudy. Who gets a trophy in the second game of the year?? Will be a great source of ridicule if we crash and burn in the SEC schedule.

Ask yourselves this question: If Florida was getting a trophy, dropping confetti, handing out rings to players, along with t-shirts proclaiming them champions, for beating North Carolina State in Daytona Speedway, this thread would have 500 posts by Vols fans making fun of it. You know I'm right.

Only Volnation would b*tch and whine over our team winning a trophy. Unbelievable. It's a damn trophy, get over it already.

All the early season "Classics" do this kind of presentation after the game. It is what it is.

The only issue I have is the shirts and caps. I'm sure the school didn't design them, but isn't that a really generous use of the word "champions"?

They'll end up clothing villagers in Africa...the Hokie allotment anyway. :)

Somebody gets it! But hey, if it's not about the fans then eff the team for having fun, they are making the fans look silly. Whatever. Some people need to chill out and enjoy the game

A trophy ceremony after the game? That was lame. A marketing gimmick. I'm not sure whose idea it was--but you don't give out a trophy for a regular season game or because the crowd was the biggest ever. If I'm the coaches, I would not want to participate, but I'm sure Jones had no choice. Or maybe he enjoyed it!

I can see maybe talking to the winning coach on a field stage after the game or giving plaques to both athletic departments to commemorate the crowd, but trophies are for athletic championships--or should be--not crowd size.

Yes wouldn't want this kids to have a special moment.

Geez
