Trooper for Head Coach....

Do you think UT has suffered more from a coaching/player development standpoint, or from a recruiting standpoint, since losing Garner?

The reason I ask is this: UT has recruited well since Rodney's departure. Over the past 6 classes, UT has had 3 top-5 hauls, and only the 2006 class finished outside the top 20 (23). So, there's been no shortage of athletes. Was Garner perhaps a better evaluator of talent, able to avoid players with character issues?

Or, has the biggest difficulty been the recruiting boost he provided to Georgia? They've obviously been recruiting outstanding classes as well, and they've certainly had their share of big wins against us over the past 6 years.

The coaching and developing of players fell off. Quarterbacks fell off with the departure of Cutcliffe, something happened to the O-Line and D- Line as well, hell we even dropped off at runningback.

First, I pay absolutely no attention to recruiting rankings. Show me the players we've signed since Rodney Garner left that are the equivalents of Jamal Lewis, Cosey Coleman, Deon Grant, etc. I do think the combined effect of Garner lifting UGA, while at the same time significantly weakening UT, cannot be underestimated.

Trooper has been the recipient of some good fortune. He has inherited some very good experienced talent that had underperformed in prior years. The next couple of years will define what kind of coach he really is. To be considering him as head coaching material at this point or even in a couple of years is quite premature.

My opinion exactly.

OMG no. no, no, and then no again. i will now once again retreat away from the main forum until football season begins.

Excellent choice. Now I won't have to read your fallacious predictions regarding Alabama's football aspirations for the 2007-2008 season.
