Trooper and former players recruiting against vols?

Shouldn't trooper recruit against tennessee?

He works for auburn now, right?

Gerald Jones is a representative of Tennessee in this instance.

Right, but he wasn't working in UT's "interests". You're not saying you think UT could get in trouble for this are you? There has to be some "substance vs form" lattitude here. You can't punish a school because a former player called a recruit and spoke against them.

Are you really surprised the NCAA doesn't have provisions for this sort of situation? I can't imagine it has been an issue very often in the past, if ever.

If this is true, it's pretty disappointing, but I can't say I'm all that surprised. Wasn't GJ quoted last year with some "Woe is me, what did I ever do to deserve all this?" sort of comments? I can certainly see why he might have some resentment and hard feelings towards UT, but actively recruiting against your school is still pretty low. Again though, this is all speculation right now, correct?

If I remember correctly, GJ said that he wished he could start his career over with the current crop of UT recruits because of Bray.

Honestly, if GJ thinks that Hamilton is about to get canned, the UT program is about to get sanctions, and Auburn is sitting pretty with a coach he admires... why wouldn't he suggest someone look there?

I wouldn't assume someone is badmouthing UT just because they don't think it's the best option for someone with options at the moment, but I wouldn't blame GJ for having some negative feelings about how his four years on the hill went either.

That said, he got to play quarterback in the SEC championship game... so, maybe he should buck up a bit.

If he is a player at Tennessee he represents Tennessee. So yes, theoretically UT could get in trouble. The motivation behind the call doesn't matter.

makes no difference when his schooling is paid for by UT

Gerald Jones should still be a student at U.T. If that is so, it seems illegal for another school to be contacting a U.T. student to get assistance in recruiting.

Where am I wrong?

Exactly. The reasons are pretty clear why Auburn is a better choice than UT as a destination for recruits at the present time. Still, it sucks if former players are emphasizing UT's shortcomings to recruits as opposed to pointing out the positive things UT offers.

A representative yes, an official recruiting rep, no. GA'S are not allowed to recruit and neither are S&C coaches. TT was a rep for his univ. and convinced a player to help recruit for his school. That is the violation here, and it would be against AU not UT.

Someone posted this on VQ. Looks like it would be a violation agains UT.

13.1.2 Permissible Recruiters.
13.1.2.1 General Rule. All in-person, on- and off-campus recruiting contacts with a prospective student-athlete
or the prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardians shall be made only by authorized institutional
staff members. Such contact, as well as correspondence and telephone calls, by representatives of an institution’s
athletics interests is prohibited except as otherwise permitted in this section. Violations of this bylaw involving
individuals other than a representative of an institution’s athletics interests shall be considered institutional violations
per Constitution 2.8.1; however, such violations shall not affect the prospective student-athlete’s eligibility.

This kinda feels like losing a game because the opposing team has too many players on the field................ but that could never happen, right?

Anyone have a confirmation from Brent? Just received a text that he is confirming and also confirming Gerald Williams

This would be a situation in where I would be ok with a total locker room beatdown of a player. If I hear on the news tomorrow that Nick, Jacques, and Corey Miller curb stomped Gerald Jones, I wouldnt be upset.

wonder if one of the Geralds informed Gabe about Chuck?

You know he did, how else would have Gabe known? However I dont have a problem with him knowing that information, it only seems fair that he knows about his future position coach who wont be there a week later.
