Would love it if he stayed but think he should go get paid now.

As much as I dislike him, Calipari said it best (paraphrasing):

if he wants to do what's best for him and his family, he should go; if he wants to do what's best for me, he should stay :)

WHY would you have a press conference just to get everyone worked up and then DISAPPOINT them? Most kids that turn pro just let the media guy know and they put a press release out. I wouldn't want to stand up there with a bunch of people HOPING I come back and then disappoint them.
Doesn't make a bit of sense to me.
Maybe because Trey is the kind of young man that wants to stand in front of Volnation, look them in the eye, and thank them for 3 years of great support. Seems to me that would be the sort of thing he'd do rather than sending out a tweet.

As much as I want him back, I think if he's in the top 2 rounds, he should enter the draft. 3rd round is a bit more debatable and I'd be absolutely shocked if he fell beyond that, even with the health issues.

The next time Trey puts on a uniform, he will be getting paid to do so.

Is it a violation for Tennessee to have talked to him before he entered the portal?
Edit:sorry meant to put that in the cade thread

Hopes he stays but would love it more for him if he gets drafted high and gets a big contract. Definitely has been enjoyable this season watching him dominate despite basically not being able to practice and other precautions taken. VFL

Doubt he would go first round in this year's draft. The unknown factor is still greater than the reward.

Agreed. I understand he is rated the #4 OG at this point by the NFL. That is not a first round rating is my best understanding.

He is probably going for a paycheck even if it is not at a round 1 amount. Can't blame him for that. I hope he stays, but that is just me and not him.

Here is my opinion on this. I think the press conference is to stay. He's not Tua. I'm guessing CJP and him are using this as a platform to bolster in 2020. I'll make a dime bet that he announces he's coming back, and it's a brilliant idea to keep the the positive energy flowing.
And he’s going to announce you’ve got the winning lotto numbers too.

Pull a Peyton Trey. One More Year.
Difference is the Mannings has the financial security for Peyton not to have to worry about returning. No idea about the Smith family and am not speculating on that, but Peyton didn’t have to worry the same way a lot of other kids did. He could go with his heart and not look back. It was great for us as fans, and I’m not saying there wasn’t a risk, just that his situation was completely different than a lot of kids.

Besides Peyton, have any other Tennessee players had a press conference to announce their return? I can't think of one off the top of my head.
Shuler but he was leaving.

If I'm Trey I absolutely go pro IF I have confirmation of multiple teams that want to draft me, with a cap possibly being set on round 3. You never know how these type of issues could affect you in the future, blood clots are no joke. I would take the money while it's there and avoid the risk of something going south next year and never being drafted at all. Hopefully he'll remain healthy in whatever he decides to do, I wish him only the best. He's earned his money either way.

Toss up medical may be too big of a concern for team physicians whereas if he comes back and completes a full year his draft stock would go up. If he knows for sure though he can go get paid and paid well then he leaves
