The Inside Read: Buzz on Alabama, Chip Kelly, Tennessee
Seems about in line with what most have said. CBJ wants to own the offense - and its hard to blame him too much when he has the stats from the last season. On Defense, however, he is acting more like a CEO coach, getting who he thinks is best person and letting them run with it and get their own people.
If CBJ can repeat most of the O's success and Shoop can get the D up to snuff (and keep them healthy), this fall could be a more pleasant surprise. And, yes, I know Dobbs is gone and a lot depends who is under center.

TENNESSEE
Coaches weve spoken with think Tennessee has hit home runs with its defensive moves and it is not sure at all what to make of the offensive changes.
Promoted offensive coordinator Larry Scotts inexperience in that role is part of the mystery, but so is the addition of quarterbacks coach Mike Canales. The 55-year-old has not had a Power 5-level job since 2006, when he was at Arizona.
Multiple industry sources echoed what we thought: Butch Jones insistence on being heavily involved in the offensive gameplan was a detractor on the open market.
If he cant tell you that youre the guy, then why would you go there and be constantly overruled? one Power 5 OC said. Whats the point of being a coordinator? The money, I guess, but thats about it.
Overall instability was a factor, as well, but the defensive hires indicate that alone could be overcome.
Weve been told by those close to the program that DC Bob Shoop was given influence in the hires of secondary coach Charlton Warren and defensive line coach Brady Hoke.
Shoop would be on notice in his second season but, as one source reminded us, theyre all on notice there.
