She played for 3 AAU national titles in 3 years.
Was it one of those 3 coaches?
Your personna, presence and personality has to be greater than your players, when it comes to coaching.
Geno Auriemma : Maya, Turassi
Pat Summitt: Candace, Chamique
Dean Smith: Michael Jordan
In each case, the coaches were known and "extremely visible" when they coached their star-players. This took public and "press" attention off of the players so they could excel.
The coaches who didn't struggle with DD has more personality and confidence than she did.
Chemistry was far from this team's biggest problem. The LVs would have been worse without DD last year and they'd have been better with her this year.
Hmmmm. To me, winning 6 extra games in a still unremarkable season, is less of an accomplishment than being able the prior season to beat 3 of the final four teams and both finalists. (A Wilson-less SoCa team to me does not count as a major victory)
It doesnt matter which coaches it was. DD would chew you up and spit you out... you have no idea. Maybe they felt it was worth it to put up with her... but she is difficult and divisive, rest assured.
I've had a couple of kids who thought they could. Parents as well...Somehow I have managed to stay dry.
I want the kid who think they can tame me.
Love working with them.
They are the ones that will work the hardest to accomplish their goal.
But, if you truly win ( and keep) their respect,..They're the fiercest competitors for you. But you have to constantly impress them and never fell to have an answer for their questions.
I have had many wannabe prima's .... But as long as I am the one who is leading the dance and showing them moves they haven't used yet...I'm Gene Kelly.
The key is get their respect and never be amazed by them. Once you are in awe of a player, you can do nothing else for them.
This situation was beyond that. There was another factor that affected the behavior and attitude of the talented DD. It was a complicated situation, given there were only 7 (Or was it 9?) players available.
Wow, you totally took that sideways, Amb. I know you like DD. I did, too. I thought she was destined to be the next legend. But through a combination of ingredients, she did become a cancer. The worst part was really that she had the most ability but was not willing to use it except when she felt like it. Thus, when she got up for big games, we had huge wins. On lower ranked opponents, she loafed and thought she could just turn it on in time to win. Thus, we had huge losses.
(We won't even rehash the behind the scenes stuff with other players.)
This team didn't have those bad losses despite relying heavily on freshmen. We lost 2 games in the SEC that we shouldn't. Our record this year is 6 games better.
If you want to blame Holly, that's your prerogative. But it won't alter the truth of the DD chemistry issues.
Notre Dame only had 7 scholarship players this year, so that's a weak excuse. Basically, you're saying Holly allowed herself/the team to be held captive by the cancerous Diamond Deshields, which is something that no capable coach would allow. Holly also knew she'd have the opportunity to get rid of her at the end of last season, and not only did she choose not to, but she included her heavily in recruiting. This was just an example of poor team management by Holly, period.
Must be Nikki's terrible coaching. I guess those that want her at TN should reconsider. (Where's the blue font when you need it? )
She wasn't anybody I ever suggested I think both Holly and Nikki are on the same level as coaches.
Holly wins a little more because she has more talented players although Nikki has been able to beat Holly a couple times down there.
Cuevas-Moore not returning to SC for her final season, transferring to WV instead. Interesting...
