19 is the traditional age so I'd imagine its common enough at BYU although there's no strict guidelines in the LDS faith that says you have to do your mission trip at 19 (or one at all) although it is considered a rite of passage (from Wikipedia so TIFWIW)Crazy to think he’ll be 25. Does everyone at BYU take their mission trip their first 2 years or can it happen at anytime?
