Trade Wars and Tariffs

Just like with the application of law in this country, the ones that try to be friendliest and try to work within the good framework are the ones that almost always get ****ed the hardest.
Going after Japan was just completely moronic. We had an average tariff of 4.3% before this stupidity and now these smooth brain lap dogs are chest thumping over 15%. Of course there is always the real probability Trump will just crawfish it back like he has every other time thus far 🤷‍♂️

This was posted in the Trump admin thread by someone else and it sure appears to me that it's the manufacturer that pays it, not consumers

The importer pays the tariffs. Always has. If Ford paid a tariff then it’s because they imported the product. They might be the manufacturer also but if they pays a tariff they are the importer of record.

Why did inflation skyrocket once Biden took over? But not in December that year.
Because of Trump’s spending from prior years that’s why. They both contributed to the inflation and it started with Trump’s overzealous spending. And the Fed didn’t help with their “transitory inflation” stupidity narrative and were slow in raising rates.

then where are the skyhigh prices and associated inflation that tarriffs are suppose to be causing? Importers pay tarriffs and would pass that cost on, then why has Amazon not seen price increases?

.....and you do suffer from TDS.
I haven't seen skyhigh prices at the store. but construction has been gutted by this. It was already precarious with the interest rates; but the tariffs have killed 3 construction projects at my firm, and put another 2 on hold until they get stabilized.

those 5 are direct from the client quotes blaming the tariffs for why they decided to stop their projects. there have been other projects halted that haven't directly blamed tariffs.

I think you will see similar "straw that broke the camels back" type situations emerging elsewhere as they drag on that do impact consumers. I know Nintendo listed the tariffs as part of the reason their prices went up. so its not like there is no evidence of consumer goods being impacted.

I know people in construction and they have all the work they can do.

the comments on this story from leftists is nothing more than personal attacks against Lutnick while making their baseless, out of thin air speculation about this trade deal with Japan. Trump could cure cancer and the left would complain.

But why didn't it hit before Biden.... It was literally overnight the inflation jumped.... Your telling me on that exact timeframe and not a second before inflation doubled... We had the same supply chain issue she months before...I think it more telling the attack on energy had a bigger impact on inflation then tariffs

So you’re claiming the response times, or time constant of the lag, is the same in both cases. Ok that’s on you to prove so prove it. I’ll wait.

And tariffs are immediate at time of import also.

On how bad inflation will be no I don’t think it rise to the peak of Biden’s term. But at this point it shouldn’t be going up at all.

The only bigger idiot in Trump’s trade room than Howard Lutnick is Peter Navarro.

“They basically brought down their tariff rate…”. No smooth brain they increased their tariff rate from 4.3% over all to 15% according to what your hero said.
nothing but personal attacks from the left, nothing of any worthwhile substance.

I'm asking what the difference is???? Why the lag on one instance and not the other... And again other then energy attack by Biden, Trump had a entire year of supply chain issue and dropping free money on the economy. It seems to me that the attack on energy is a bigger cause of inflation then these tarriffs....

I’ve gotten increase warnings from suppliers stating prices are going up. Most didn’t say how much they just said they going up by whatever tariff applies at billing time and it will be broken out.
