Trade Wars and Tariffs

I’m calling Bull ****.
They had a list and they blanket stamped tariffs on it.
The details are what make you look stupid.

It should not be hard to not look as stupid as the last guy. He was seriously impaired with dementia…..but here we are
beginning at 13 second mark, VDH talked about "leakage" where tarriffed countries try to slip their products through other countries to get around the tarriffs. Therefore put tarriffs on all countries to catch this "leakage".

Can't do that as they kill average person's retirement savings. They've overreached in an astounding way already. That would doom his legacy even more.

Huh? Help me with that. Lowering corporate taxes would would “kill retirement savings”?

How does that work

Now that’s a fair argument.
Not sure that’s happening but you close holes before they are a problem.
Still not convinced that’s what happened here.

So, two nations with whom we had nearly balanced tariffs? Way to go Donnie!
there has been as many as 50, I do not have a copy of the ustr report. why would you be surprised countries are willing to make deals?

Vietnam had 90% tarriffs, Trump put reciprocal tarriff 46% on vietnam and equaled Britain's tarriff at 10%

the tarriffs are being used as leverage to bring trading partners to the table to make new better deals for the United States. evidently leftists hate this.

Yep, it’s true—Taiwan’s President Lai offered zero tariffs to the US today, per Reuters, to kick off trade talks

Wait, I thought the tariffs are there so foreigners pay our income taxes? I thought the tariffs are there so we can bring all the factories back to America?

REALITY: All of this is because Trump has the nonsensical belief that if we buy more stuff from another country than they buy from us, we're being "ripped off." That's it. That's what this is all about. There is no grand plan in action, other than to make himself the center of attention.

Leakage isn’t a quiet assassin. It’s always fully known by each industry, moving sourcing from China to Vietnam or S Korea, Indonesia, while still fully owned by China is never a secret or a short term play…takes time to build factories there too. If it’s not a secret, it can be slapped w a tariff. Also, Extra factories = excess capacity = dumping.

The tariffs are, pure and simple, a consumption tax. That hits the middle class and the lower class harder than the wealthy because consumption of core goods is a larger proportion of their income.

If you do that on the one hand, and on the other hand give tax breaks to corporations and to the wealthy, the point becomes clear.

Already, Bloomberg is reporting that a number of GOP congresspersons are unwilling to count tariff income towards revenues precisely because they realize that, if the tax breaks Trump promises pass, it reinforces the point that Trump is an enemy to the middle and lower classes, and he'll drag them down with him.

I mean the world bank reports 1.4 million in exports to the US from those penguins...what would you need to be convinced??? I'm curious..

Tariffs are going to be felt at all economic levels. As are corporate taxes. I imagine a lot of CEOs lost a lot wealth over the last week. The people selling those goods and importing goods to make other products are also losing here. Not just the poor.

You seem to have completely redirected however from the original inquiry.

How do tariffs differ in your mind from corporate taxes? Why do you see one as a positive and the other as a negative?

It's simple: they didn't have a plan and used CHATGPT to just make up some kind of trade policy like they were playing CIV6.

Dumb and baseless claim is dumb and baseless. Their policy is horrible. Focus on that. You don’t need to add unsubstantiated rumors
