Lol just got a warning email from a supplier stating that due to the China tariffs they will be 100% passing any economic impacts directly thru to their customers. Any PO’s invoiced in the near future will include payment of any anticipated tariffs up front. LMAO![]()
What you describe is simply not true. No actions have been accelerated. On Saturday, Trump says there is nothing that can be done by Canada to avoid tariffs. Then, the market quivers and we agreed to about 13% more expenditure on the border and he agrees to delay illegal tariffs. That 13% is fairly trivial so you basically get what was already offered but by taking an approach that has shocked the market, and mobilized a country to avoid buying American products (about $430b exported Canada in 2022) or travel to the US (about $20b per year). So unnecessaryGood grief; he did that, meeting with Trudeau in November and conversed with Scheinbaum in late November. He laid it out and wanted immediate action.
Now they understand what immediate means, which is not months of floundering and posturing.

It didn't and wouldn't destroy anything, in an alliance of economic dependency in which Canada can be a better neighbor.View attachment 719018

Tariff On Canada Not Justified By U.S. Immigration And Drug Claims
Evidence suggests that the justification for a 25 percent import tariff on Canadian goods and services does not hold up to scrutiny. Here is why.www.forbes.com
Yeah I don't think there's any reality where one can honestly argue that ~24,000 border crossings and 43 lbs of fentanyl warrants a 25% tariff on imports, and destroying a long-standing alliance with a neighbor country.

“Defense” can mean several different markets. This particular product is targeting both lower performance US as well as export markets. We have the latitude to use materials sourced off shore. Once you start playing the COTS game a lot of material comes from off shore to stay cost competitive. Plus in this case it isn’t the material directly bought from this supplier which is an electric motor using rare earth minerals. It is their cost for their material sourced offshore. China has a huge strangle hold on the whole rare earth mineral market.Interesting since you are a defense contractor.
It’s spelled breathE. And, I love Americans and you have a great country. But I’m also happy where I am and who I am. We are proudly independent and that should be kept firmly in mindY'all aren't going to stop buying American or traveling to America, inside every Canadian is an American wanting to breath free.

Canada has a burgeoning cartel presence trafficking opioids and humans. That 43 lbs is a lethal dose for 9.8M people. Rather than minimizing it alongside southern seizures, we should recognize that as a disgraceful state of the Mexican border created by decades of dereliction. And that Mexico is certainly not a good neighbor, in yet another alliance of economic dependence. And that we're not willing to tolerate a Mexico North.
How much opioid and human trafficking is tolerable to you, that is, the point at which you think "okay, now we do something"?

Nice.
I think the people of Canada and Mexico should wake up every morning, face America, and say thank you. Because if we acted like a Superpower from centuries ago, we would take their country and do whatever the heck we wanted with them. Who would stop us? Europe? China? Russia?
Nah.
Yep! SOME of us were screaming about this decades back!Yeah, we as a nation failed by allowing China to dominate the REM market. Shortsightedness at it's best.

We have some deposits but it’s economics driven. It’s cheaper to go offshore than dig on US soil I think. And it could be driven by regulatory requirements I don’t really know.dont we have the REMs but environmental regs are the biggest impediment?
