Trade Wars and Tariffs

USMCA is outside of all this.

China has been targeted. There will be other ways to push back on their BS.

As far as I can tell, the SCOTUS decision is only related to new 2025 tariffs imposed by Trump. The retaliatory tariffs. The administration will exploit other means. I think that economic embargoes have always been in play if DT elects to go scorched earth.

Why shouldnt the consumers get the refunds? The court basically called it a tax , right? The consumers paid , so the refunds should go to us. The sellers already got their money and the odds of much in the way of falling prices in the future seems very low at best.
So when will the tariff checks be mailed? Call your congressman.

You know what the beauty of these tariffs mean for the consumer? Companies now know that you will purchase the product at a higher price, and while they will get a refund on the tariff, the vast majority won't decrease the price of their products, and we all get to continue to pay higher prices in spite of the tariffs going away.

This is the same thing that happened with domestic competition for tariffed products, they could raise their prices. and the consumer has no choice but to pay more whether it's an import or domestic.

But not too bad when cuts in government spending reduced it by about a third. And then there’s been the crackdown on illegal immigration. So I wouldn’t label it as trash. We’re still growing.
Gov't spending propped up GDP under Biden. Trump is reprivatizing the economy with private sector leading growth instead of the gov't.

Whether you agree with the decision or don’t, Roberts is a hack.

Goes completely against his validation for ruling in favor of the ACA.

Man is clearly bought and corrupt.

Yep, someone needs to dig into that guy. At least ask him some serious questions about the conflicting rulings.

Usually if they hand down a "anti-Trump" ruling, it's because they are about to announce one the MSM and left will denounce (they did this with Trump immunity and Roe vs Wade rulings too)

My gut is they will rule against the illegal gun laws in the blue states OR will rule against gerrymandering districts by race

Interesting issue is whether the companies that upped their prices to pay for the tariffs, thereby passing them on to the consumers, get to keep the refunds. I cannot think of a mechanism that forces them to pay it back to the consumers.

We all got taxed. The companies now get the windfall. We just paid higher prices for no reason. Good job, Donnie.
Technically if the companies that imported products raised their prices commensurate with the amount of tariffs that they had to pay, they receive no windfall profits at all. In this case the burden fell solely on the shoulders of American consumers.

Given that the SCOTUS ruled that Trump's action was illegal, are they now forced to issue refunds from a legal perspective?

He simply ran with the wrong legislation. Read Clarence T’d dissent.

What has the administration done with tariffs that the other 6 relevant sections won’t permit?
Again, if this were actually a thought out policy, why didn't Trump run with these other alternatives instead from the beginning?

(Answer: he was able to impose these tariffs unilaterally without congressional input)
