Total War: Warhammer

apparently the End Times is going to be broken into at least 3 but maybe 4 DLC. so you are still going to have to wait on Thanquol.

and if they don't give Gotrek and Felix some whacky buffs when on the table against him they can throw out the entire series. those books are the only good ones from Fantasy.
 
Best battle I've ever had in the franchise was on Med 2. It was a defense against a massive Moors/Egypt/Turkish jihad in a fully upgraded Jerusalem. This was 17 years ago and I still remember it like yesterday.
I loved/hated fighting against the Mongols/Timirids. they would have all 8/10 of their armies besieging you, and you knew you had to bleed them multiple times to finally beat them.

I miss the castle battles where you could have multiple rings of walls. those actually felt like a siege to me. siege battles have been on a decline since Medieval 2, but they really dropped off when it was just partial cities, and miss me with the defenders giving up due to losses like its a regular battle.

woo? I guess. not sure I really trust them to get this right.

don't get me wrong the trailer is bad arss, but this is MASSIVE change in mechanics. and with them splitting the IG and Marines into the separate factions there is no way they are going to scale this properly.

also chaos not being a part of this from the start is a massive miss. I would drop the eldar for them. or really would prefer a combined Imperial faction and put chaos in there instead of splitting the IG and Marines.

Yeah, CA's stock is pretty low right now. First major issue with mechanics I see for this is the horrendous AI.

like the in game AI that controls the other factions? I was talking with a friend about this, the extra layer of anti-player bias I get may make this unplayable for me.
 


some good stuff from the developer. @Persian Vol @DinkinFlicka skip to a little after the 30 minute mark, they cover a very interesting new mechanic.

we will be able to place various structures as we want, including ports, castles, and maybe universities/churches and other items.

I hope they include some "smart" systems with that, connecting to a road, some areas where you can't place them, things like that. not even alpha build so none of that has really been addressed yet. but very interesting.

also some interesting stuff about the influence population will have on the game. sounds like even late game having armies of just knights will be a major issue.

Appreciate this. It’s so far away from now I’m trying not to get too excited. I remember the previews for Rome 2, it was supposed to be the best thing ever. It looked amazing. And when it came out it was disappointing. But I’m curious to see if Creative Assembly gets there **** together on the historical front. I wonder if EU5 and Paradox’s success might influence their mechanics, especially with the population mechanic.

The issue I have had with the games has been they have gotten away from the "Total War" aspect of it, and have tried to put various other mechanics in there for you to manage. managing families is my least favorite thing in TW games, its one of the reasons I go back to play Warhammer Total War rather than some of the historical games.

Rome 2 at launch was unplayable due to the agents. even the current status the agents are still way OP for a total war game.

i want to focus on building an empire and smashing my enemies. yes there are lots of things that went into that historically, but that should never be a major part of a "Total War" game.

honestly if the "war" part was still as good I could deal with the extra stuff. but siege battles have SUCKED since Medieval 2. battles haven't really developed or gotten better AI since also Medieval 2.

I agree that I never really enjoyed the agents. Rome 2’s politics system was horrendous and tedious. I personally like a family tree, but medieval 2’s version as opposed to the overtly complicated versions.

I do heavy agent play in TW games and can attest to how absolutely busted it is in Rome II.

I like KF's Empire for challenge purposes only. otherwise they suck.
dwarfs have the best character and individual unit in the game, give me the angry rants of Grombrindal and grot chucker for pure enjoyment. also the best confederation system in the game.
Vampires/Vampires Coasts can be pretty fun, with good units. The Mournghouls still give me the willies so spot on there.

I haven't tried out the Orks in a while, didn't get their DLC. they used to be up there too.

By turn 40 you can field three full armies of 6x Jezzails, 6x ratling guns, 4x plague catapults, 3x plague priests with vermintide, and either a warlock master or grey seer of ruin. There are very few counters to that army when it corner camps. Your lords and heroes just summon an endless frontline of clanrats while the rest of the army melts anything in range.

Siege might be their weakest point but then again you have 4 catapults and 4 casters with some of the best spells in the game.

Yeah I have seen some crazy min/maxed builds for pretty much every faction.

Not the most powerful run, but your build made me think of my favorite dwarf build. 3x grudge thrower, 3/4x organ guns, 4/3x iron drakes, 8 iron breakers, engineer and melee lord. Painful amounts of range at every level, and still have a melee line that will hold up to anything that survives.

You can do a budget version with miners and cannons, instead of breakers and organ guns, by turn 10.

Campaign dwarfs get really mean with Malakais improvements. Organ guns can get range to 420, increased rate of fire, and a rune and absolutely demolish anything it sees. And that's even after they nerfed the range.

Organ guns are my favorite because they can do whatever you want range to do. Not the best range but its decent. High rate of fire to take on fast moving targets or hordes, enough damage to take chunks of out heavies and stompy. Accurate enough to character hunt. You plop and engineer near one with the buffs and you take it to another level.

You won't have the early game budget to run 3 armies early, but late game dwarf economy is peak.
