TOS Reporting 3 players likely to enter transfer portal

Will Ignont, Shannon Reid, Jacquez Jones. Patrick Brown says more could follow.

Butch players.... imagine that.
I expected more of this would have happened last year. We all knew changes would occur and I was a little surprised that more did not happen then. The problem with this is it takes longer to restock the roster with the type players coach Pruitt recruits. Thes players are seeing 1st and 2nd year player taking their place on the field. We will see more as the season progresss and the new recruiting class arrives next year. The talent of our team will continue to increase as the new players arrive.

Just seeing twitter rumors about 5 guys that are gone today

Looks like Reid, Jones, Byrd and two other guys are possibly leaving or transferring. Can’t figure out what yet. Not very clear.

But I just wanted to say this: before some of you get all giddy about “Pruitt cleaning house” and how it’s time to throw the dead weight out and all that...

Remember when everyone was glad Hurd left? How he was cancer and all of that? Then it actually turned out that Butch jones bumbled his situation about as badly as you possibly can? The concussion issue then lied and said he was suspended and all of that? Yeah. Sometimes players know when a guy is just a bum.

Not saying that’s the whole story, obviously, so before you go type type type, just know I understand every story has two sides.

But if it’s 5 guys, on top of the 2 that left a few weeks ago, on top of the 2-3 that left in the spring or right after last season......you’re looking at like 10+ guys transferring out for “reasons”. It’s hard to get 10 guys to agree about anything in modern day life. When they all seem to think our HC is not someone they want to play for? Hmmmm.

I was surprised at how little turnover there was early. It’s pretty obvious by now regarding who is going to play and who isn’t.
Still shocked that Byrd can’t find a spot. They are possibly losing all the WR Corp and Pruitt has t recruited much of anything at that position.

You are crazy! It is a good look. It means CJP is continuing to GET RID of the PLAYERS NOT GIVING THEIR ALL FOR TN. If they can't give 100% exactly as asked, they need to hit the curb!!!
I believe it is more that players are not wanting to drown on a sinking ship rather than Pruitt getting rid of players.

WR is looking like it might be an absolute ghost town after this season. JG passing for 107yrds in games isn’t exactly bringing in the big names either lol

How is it a coach from a 9 year old, little program, with a handful of players, none of which were recruited by SEC teams, can COACH his guys up, inspire his team, and come to Knoxville and kick UT's Ass? The quality of our coaching staff, is the cancer, players can be coached, if we had a coach.

You would be surprised how well a team can play who is fielding jrs and srs who have had at least 3 years to learn the scheme and play as a team. They also dont have to unlearn what they have already learned. What is clear is that the players on the field are not really a TEAM yet. Some from the old coach/ old systems have bought in to the new ones but not all and that is causing a miss match.

Maybe this is what it will take to bring us back. Butch was bad in more ways than the football field. Two years and he still carries a clipboard and walks sidelines. Must not be doing well with his rehab in the Saban rehab school.

This is actually what I expected shortly after Pruitt took over. I gauged Pruitt as a no nonsense kind of coach that would not tolerate a loser mentality and as a result, I assumed there would be a mass exodus of Butch's players. I am really surprised at just how little turnover there's been.

Many people want to get rid of players they perceive as not giving 100% for Tennessee, but in their next breath, they don't want to get rid of a coach that isn't getting it done for Tennessee...bi-polar?

Hurd, despite his emotional immaturity, was quite talented in spite of Butch. Despite everything, Hurd wasnt having problems delivering on the field. The guys who are leaving are not even getting ON the field because younger guys are outplaying them and when they do get there, they are liability.

Compare how Butch's staff handled Juan Jennings vs how Pruitt handled him. If Pruitt's recruits decide to leave, that is a whole different matter. If Pruitt had not been a first year coach and BUT for the 25 recruit restriction, I expect many of these guys would have been highly encouraged to go elsewhere last year.

Nah, these are mostly players who have had 3 years to get it done and are getting beat out by incoming talent. Coaches havent even had 2 years - AND coaches with Chaney onboard hasnt even had one. See how silly your analogy is when you think about it?

I wish all Butch's recruits would go ahead and leave. Then after 5 years maybe we could lay the blame on the current coach instead of previous years. Any coach that's hired has the responsibility of getting past payers to buy in. What's going on right now is not a good thing. Tennessee is self imposing the death penalty on itself.

Or, he’s alienating players he didn’t recruit.
Hopefully it’s what you say.

I think it's more about them getting benched in favor of other players. Look at the players wanting to transfer. And this is not just a TN problem. Since they invented the Transfer Portal it's happening across the all of CFB.

FL state had a roster in shambles coming into this season and managed to get better and actually win FBS games. It can be done. Most of these “butch players” have had more time w CJP than CBJ. So saying our roster needs flipping to be at 2-2 right now is just wrong. Coming into this season we had top 15-20 talent according to composite recruiting services. This is all on the HC at this point.

They're all upperclassmen that aren't starting anymore. That's the reason, it's obvious.

Exactly. You have to get buy in. Byrd made a phenomenal special teams play. You can’t tell me that the players getting the reps are deserving. Slow and out of position.

They're quitting because they're not starting and/or getting the playing time they think they deserve. In the case of Byrd in particular I can't blame him. He's a good receiver that has way too much talent starting over him. As for Ignot and Reid it's because they were benched in favor of youth (To'o To'o). Would you rather the coach start them to make them happy or start who he feels is best?

UT has a deeper hole to climb out of but this is similar to what Saban did early. He had most of it done before the 2nd season but his roster was closer to being able to handle it... plus he didn't have the 25 signee restriction.

I really don't know these kids. I do know that when you have a change in leadership and especially if the new leader is strong... not everyone on the team will like it. Some... won't fit. Doesn't mean they're bad people or untalented. Doesn't mean the new leader is bad or wrong. It is just a simple fact that not everyone can work for a particular leader and no leader can lead just "anyone".

JG is a liability.
Warrior is a liability.
Half of our linemen are a liability.

But they play. All the time.

Ignot has played a good bit this season. What’s his excuse?

I remember when Charlie Strong kicked a ton of players off of Texas’s roster because they wouldn’t buy in. That probably cost him his job in the end.

I have no doubt that Pruitt was thinking about this exact thing when he was considering who to keep last year.
