First two I agree with.

Stockton- Wasn't a scorer, wasn't athetlic, an above average defender. He's a top 25 player, but he's not the third best player ever.

LeBron- I can be fine with that.

Barkley- Horrible defender, and his career should have been 10% than it was because he of his weight and idiotic three pointers.

Shaq- You can't take Shaq over Kareem, when Kareem was just as dominant for a longer period of time.

Bird- Fine

Karl or Moses? Moses, I'm fine with. Karl, no.

Kareem- Top five, along with Jordan and MJ. You can't have a top five without Kareem.

Rodman- No, just no.

Reading is fun-damental. I stated that they were in no specific order.

Stockton was not merely an above average defender, he was a great defender. Received all-defensive honors 5 times. He was also an incredibly efficient scorer.

Barkley a horrible defender? Yeah, he was short, but he overcompensated with dominant rebounding ability, a penchant for theft, and he wasn't a bad shot blocker (Lebron has same career BPG average). Let's not forget his status as one of the NBA's all-time greatest enforcers. Horrible defender? I just can't understand that at all.

I'm fine with Moses over Mailman. Couldn't think of everybody.

Rodman = Greatest rebounder of all time. It was like playing 6 on 5. I liken Rodman to Lawrence Taylor. There are a only a couple things they do at an elite level, but it made them two of the most valuable players their leagues have ever seen.

I completely missed that. My apologies.

Barkley was a bad defender. He was abused in the low post. He could do weakside shot blocking. That's about it.

Rodman was a two trick pony in a five trick pony sport. He's impressive, and underrated. Not top ten.

Five times in twenty years? That's not bad. He was very good at picking pockets, but Kevin Johnson abused him in 1993. So did other point guards.

You can say the same thing about every defender ever. Gary Payton wasn't holding everybody to 5 points a night. Everybody gets torched.

You'd be hard pressed to find many PG's that got those honors 5 times.

Division of labor.

If you are looking for 1 player to turn your franchise around, you'll want a 5-tool guy. If you have a decent squad, and need somebody to take you to the next level, Rodman is your guy. A good rebounder will get you 8 or 9 per game. Rodman could get you 16. It's like playing 6 on 5.

The basketball establishment does not sufficiently appreciate rebounding:

The average possession is worth 1 point.

This means each shot taken = -1 point, and each shot made = 2 points

So, on average each rebound is worth 1 point (because you gain/regain possession).

Scoring 25 points on 20 shots is a very nice feat (nobody scores this efficiently, on average), but it only gives your team a 5 point advantage over average NBA productivity.

Say the average PF can get you 7 RPG, and Rodman could get you 16 rebounds....that's a 9 point advantage, on average.

Basically, what I'm saying is that Rodman's value rebounding is greater than any value anybody can produce scoring the basketball.

Durant is one of the few current players (that aren't already on the list) that I feel comfortable saying may one day be there but as of now he's probably not even top 25.

It's really hard to make predictions about breaking longevity records. When I was a kid in the late 80s early 90s everybody was saying Griffey Jr would break Hank's record, and I don't remember anybody saying Bonds would.

David Robinson over Wilt Chamberlain?
David Robinson over Tim Duncan ( who is absent for whatever reason )?
David Robinson over just about any center worth a damn in the last 25 years?

I never saw Wilt, I never saw Russell. Duncan isn't better than Malone, imo. I put Robinson on there because I forgot about Carmelo

Is this a list of the the 10 "greatest" players ever? Or 10 "best" ever? There is a difference. I would include Wilt and Russell in my greatest list because of sheer impact, but not the best. Having seen 11 full games of Wilt Chamberlain, I actually believe he's the most overrated player of all time. He was uncoachable until his later years. Extremely selfish. Very limited skill-set offensively compared to the likes of Shaq, Kareem, and Hakeem. And if he ever got in foul trouble, he would quit playing defense. Literally.

I've also seen 14 full games of Russell, and he was even more limited than Wilt offensively.

Here's my top 10 "best" ever. And I rank mostly on skill rather than impact.

3. Kareem
4. Bird
5. Hakeem
6. Shaq
7. LeBron
8. Kobe
9. Elgin Baylor/Tim Duncan/Jerry West
10. Elgin Baylor/Tim Duncan/Jerry West

Pick any two of those three guys for #'s 9 and 10 and I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Duncan was better than Malone. By a long shot.
