You may be onto something there... it wouldn't surprise me at all. Brown and D Williams are the most experienced d linemen we've got, and Martin and Walker probably have the most potential at this point... so it could conceivably be a great combo.
Wonder why Monte and Kiff weren't there. You stress for people to show up at 5:30 am to see how strong they're working, and then the HC isn't even there? What sense does that make?

Seriously, though this is why you have a staff. Other guys can run a February workout, I don't see why Lane and Monte would have to be there every morning. Not to mention I think Lane is focused on finalizing this recruiting class and still trying to work the Brown / Oku / Charles / Geathers angle.

This combination wouldn't have been done in the past but Monte will play with schemes to get the guys on the fieldwho can make the most impact. I'd like to see us use our DL the way that Spagnuolo did at the NYG. Bringing a powerful DE inside on passing downs gives a significant athletic advantage and helps the DTs stay fresh. I actually like our DL rotation even though it is a little thin on the back end.
Another thought I've had is going to a 3-4 formation with D. Williams in the middle, Chris Walker/Wes Brown on the ends and G.Williams and B. Martin as OLBs. The key would be finding tWo other LBs who can drop into pass coverage and mixing up who you blitz. I think that could be a dominant pass-rushing formation.
I agree with all except liking our DT line-up... I wish we had another solid, experienced tackle returning... but oh well.
I would think that the Brown at DT combo you mentioned above would also work well against the spread offense, given the speed that it would add, as well as having less threat of a smash-mouth, up the middle attack, where Brown's size would be more of a liability.

was this morning just a one time thing or are all practices going to be open?
It looks bad at first glance but D. Williams, Nelson, Thomas, Langley, Hughes and Walls is a decent rotation at DT. More experience would be nice but Nelson, Thomas and Langley all have some experience. Martin, Brown, Walker, G. Williams, Fowlkes, and Bohannanon is a pretty deep rotation of DEs.
